In this video I continue the process of repairing the rear differential in this Crown Vic Police Interceptor. If you don't remember from a previous video when I removed the axle.
The axle shaft on the right side broke and caused damage to the axle housing.
We searched around and couldn't find a reasonable priced complete replacement axle.
I found this axle local out of a regular crown vic. I truthfully can not remember what gear ratio either rear end was. But I knew I was going to swap the pinion and carrier from the old assembly to the new one. I found that the new axle is a 28 spline and the old axle is a 31 spline.
The 31 spline carrier and pinion went right into the new housing. After installing new axle bearings and axle seals the axle shafts slid right in. I reinstalled the axle assembly in the vehicle. Filled the rear end with friction modifier and 75w140. Test drove and then checked for leaks.
car ran out great. Its ready to go back to the owner.
