I was an athiest. What worked for me.... I made a friend that is an Orthodox monk online 5 years ago and we just talked about all sorts of things and one day I was thinking about some things he had said to me that clicked. I started researching Orthodox Christianity and I found that most things I already thought and felt lined up waaaay too well with Orthodoxy. I also found Bible Illustrated Hands and that was a huge help and bonus. Now I'm a catechumin and I cannot wait for baptism! I think a lot of people are searching for Christ, even though they aren't aware of it. I'm sure he prayed for me too. 😁 He's a wonderful friend. The comment about being an athiest and having to be alone etc also really struck me, Bojan. Thank you for your content. It's amazing.

I was an atheist until I simply met some Christians who were nice people. They didn’t even talk about Christianity. So I would say that if you want to convert someone it’s not so much a case of telling them about Christianity but showing them Christianity through your behaviour.

As one of those former atheists who is now on a journey to Orthodoxy, let me say this. Don't try to convert us. The person has probably already had that from everybody else. I know I had, and it was beyond tiresome. Bojan's point about living your Orthodoxy is spot on: lead by example. If there of a mind to be converted at all (and not everyone will be ready) then that, more than any argumentation or debate, will likely get them asking questions. Answer questions truthfully. If you don't know the answer to a given question, say so and try to find the answer. Remember, the questions people ask are often indicators to what is troubling them and, if you can make an effort to answer those questions, you likely help both them and yourself without realizing it. If they're interested, offer them suggested reading materials or videos. Above all, be genuine and live your Orthodoxy. Authenticity is a more effective way to provoke interest than almost anything else, especially since it is becoming more rare in this age of social media manipulation and political rhetoric. What drew me towards Orthodoxy was no more complicated than meeting someone who was genuinely living it. I did the asking from there and before I knew it, I was actually reading the bible again (hadn't touched it in years). Reflecting on that, this one genuine person got me reading the Bible (now using the OSB) when the dozens of bible-thumping evangelicals who had accosted me over the years could not. God is amazing, that way. Tl;dr: Live your faith and lead by example. If they're ready, or even interested, that is the best thing you can do.

Hello may I ask your opinion? Do you think Atheists who are mostly looking for eyes-evidences will be more 'touched' when they see someone that is an embodiment of a faith because they are observable? At least they know that person is real and they can observe them esp. with their own eyes. Thank you ❤

I only have a few requests, please... *Understand I can only speak for myself and do NOT represent all Atheists *Be respectful/polite. *I will NOT try to deconvert you. Please don't try to convert me. *To ensure this doesn't turn into a debate, I only respond to questions, I don't assume anything about the question and my answers are as direct and to the point as I can make them. Please don't mistake that has me not taking your questions seriously. I want Theists to have a chance to ask questions without worrying about getting into a debate or confrontation. In my case (I was agnostic) nobody could have convinced me in any way. The biggest thing for me was that I recognized there were much more intelligent people than me who did believe and they were not merely coping with life, they had genuine faith and conviction I could never achieve. That kept me going and eventually at the worst point of my life I simply sought out the Orthodox church which I already knew would be the only real bet if there really IS something, whatever that something may be. That's when God graced me with not just one but multiple miracles seemingly for standing by teachings I didn't believe in but wanted to be true, not that I deserved them, but I would have probably ended it otherwise. It was honestly quite similar to how St. Paisios the Athonite experienced the revival of his faith when he was a child/young teen, just without being even close to him in virtue.

Just a couple of points I wanted to mentioned from your video: 1. You mentioned those 3 cases for atheists, but it's important not to forget the category of 'Those who were raised in religious beliefs and stopped believing later on as the reasons to believe simply weren't sufficient to keep believing'. That tends to usually be the situation from my interactions. 2. You mentioned 'the gruesomeness of being all alone without God'. This strikes me as a very...odd statement. It's an unfalsifiable one too which is troublesome. Someone could say 'No, my life isn't gruesome at all, I have a good life and I don't believe in any gods', to which one might reply 'you can't have an _actually_ fulfilled life without believing in god', but that kind of rings as hollow for someone who doesn't see things that way. If you tell someone their leg is broken but when they check it, walk on it, and look for damage and they find absolute nothing wrong...is it so strange that they wouldn't take that notion seriously?

Hey Bojan, love your videos! You're teaching me a lot about christianity. Can you answer me something? Recently I had a little debate with a guy in a christian subreddit. Where where talking about "free healthcare". I'm against paying more taxes for that I've said that I would rather help people myself, and others do the same, than paying the government to do it for us. He told me I am a murderer for not supporting free healthcare because people die without it. And that I am disrespecting the 5th commandment. Do you think he is right? It's better to pay the government to do "charity" or help people? I don't know, I consider myself very libertarian. Do you think that not supporting that makes me a murderer somehow? Sorry for the long text, and thanks for reading.
@schmudej85
@schmudej85 3 жыл бұрын
I know this is a bit old, however I saw this and had to reply. No, you are not a murderer by refusing to support free health care or other social programs. Murder, if we follow the generally accepted definition, is the deliberate killing of another human life by one's own hand. It is not murder to refuse to support wasteful, ineffective programs and to suggest that there are better alternatives than the government. I have noticed a trend with the kind of people who say these things. They love "humanity" but are completely apathetic towards individual humans. For example, I once was speaking to a person who tried to tell me something similar about how I was cruel for not supporting free healthcare programs. So I proposed a situation to them: I asked if they'd be willing to support such a program. They, of course, said yes. Then I asked them if, were I sick at this moment, they would be willing to help with my medical bills. You can probably guess the reaction, it was a definite no. They were aghast that I'd even suggest such a thing and that it was not their responsibility under such a program, it was the government's. You can see the trend here, they often use the pretense of social responsibility to cover their own selfishness. It is sad, and we must pray for them even as we correct their hypocrisy.

@@BanterWithBojan no honestly if there was evidence outside of the Bible that confirms the biblical account then I would have to believe but multiple scientific studies undertaken by many different people (including theists) have time and again disproven the biblical account partly due to the fact that there are no other documents that confirm the biblical account. @Clodaghbob
@Clodaghbob 3 жыл бұрын
Sergio Ruiz Méndez I would ask them who the "you" is in the statement "now you are accepting evolution". There are plenty of scientists who absolutely believe in science and in a God. Some christian groups have a problem with evolution. Others have no conflict between science and God at all. Some faith schools teach evolution alongside Christianity. While you're at it, if they genuinely claim to be atheist, ask them why they are so dogmatic in their beliefs. They can't prove whether God exists or not. They can't prove the Big Bang theory (it's a good theory...but it's still a theory) nor can they prove what happened before the Big Bang. So atheism is irrational. The best they can do is say "I don't know" and become agnostic.
@aaronjones2815

What if I don't fall under any of the three categories you listed? I became an atheist by studying the Bible and many other holy books and the history of religion. There are thousands gods and religions, some older, and some newer than Christianity. They all seem to be rooted in mysticism and magical thinking, they all appear to be man made. I know there is no empirical evidence for any gods, so I won't even ask. I can only believe in what can be demonstrated to exist in the natural world until shown otherwise. I'm skeptical, but not closed minded, I constantly study and seek truth. Even if I became convinced a god exists, there's still a matter of which one. They all say theirs is the only way.

@@Clodaghbob You are mistaken Those terms are not used like that these days. In any case you'd need more then two options. There are people for example who say they don't know yet and others who say it can not be known. I used to have long arguments with an 'agnostic' scholar who had faith a god existed, but was uncertain of his nature. How could I call myself agnostic? Regardless, atheists such as myself take the position that we'll believe there's a god when someone offers proof. No one can prove there is no god as there are too many different meanings to the word god. Some believers will tell you "oooh well god is just that feeling you get when you do something nice" lol well obviously you can't disprove that one Of course you can prove that the Bible is a collection of fables with a few tribal histories thrown in written by people who had no idea how the world worked. And you can disprove a specific god based on the claims. For example the Christian god is supposedly infinitely powerful AND benevolent. That contradicts his claimed actions so we can show that the claims are invented. So I have no trouble saying that the biblical god is fictional, but that doesn't mean there isn't a god.

"What should I do in order to make him convert?" Bring a sound, valid argument along with evidence to substantiate the argument. "Atheists who were raised in a household where they weren't given a chance to experience religion." Certainly you don't think that religion isn't around us all the time with different people, churches everywhere? There *are* chances to learn it, but at the same time, that question can be posed to a Catholic: "You're given the chance to learn about Islam's truth, why haven't you? You're given the chance to learn about Buddhism's truth, why haven't you? You're given the chance to learn about Jehova's Witness's truth, why haven't you?" "Typical arguments" Trajen (SP?) 'saved by the prayers of the church.' What does that mean "saved by the church"? You mustn't expect that atheists also think "being saved" is a thing, first you must show that anyone actually needs saving. Second, you cannot conclude that because an individual is "saved by the church" that it lends any truth to any of the other claims about the religion. That doesn't follow. "Any other material [won't be read]." Certainly it wouldn't. But that alone doesn't justify that it's true. Have the Eastern Christianity Orthodox read everything from Islam? Hinduism? The writing of Saints doesn't mean they are an authority outside of the religion, that would still need to be shown to be true. "Fast/prayer." How on earth would that help the conversation? Why would it take a direct prayer to a god to help atheists find what is true? Are you saying that's the only thing that's ever been needed? If so, why hasn't it been done by anyone of any religion in the history of humanity? And why would the god not simply do it in the first place? "...pick a saint [that suits the situation]..." Again, why hasn't this been done already by every theist for every person, atheist or other religious follower? You're alluding that there's a solution to the "atheist/heathen problem" here yet have failed (along with every other religious person layman, priest, cardinal, pope, etc.) to do anything to fix it. "...It may be the will of god for your friend to remain an atheist for some time." So, until we die? Just like all the atheists that have died in the past even before Christianity. That's a strange goal for a god to have, to allow all those atheists to die and then go to hell. "The gruesomeness of being all alone without god." Wow. My guy, there's nothing gruesome about not believing in a god. Fairly certain my life isn't gruesome. "Converts too fast." So, incredible revelations are fast conversions...how many Saints and individuals had fast conversions? Is that saintly? "Let god worry your worries." If you happened to believe that, and the individual who listened to this, then what you're saying is "Do nothing, god'll take care of it." "There's a lot of people in hell because there was no one to pray for them." Why on earth haven't theists simply prayed for everyone and remove their ability to go to hell? Or is there a work-around for that which absolves the theist from taking any responsibility on the matter even though all the prior to this point has been the theist taking some amount of responsibility. "Commanded to pray then leave the results up to god." Then that certainly makes the point of praying moot. If the results are always up to god (presuming it has a 'plan') then there's no point in praying, is there? You've essentially refuted the entire point of this response by that one sentence.

@@BanterWithBojan You think we believe things because scientists tell us and you compare that to hearing a sermon from some guy who make a living from preaching? The way science works other people repeat the tests and see if they come out the same for them. For an important result 1000s will have repeated the tests. For many things ordinary people can spot check it. Even then scientific results typically are less than 100% certain. You'll have been told that all non-believers in god believe in the big bang, but that's not the case. The Big Bang is a possible explanation. But believers in god are 100% certain their god is the true one without any test at all. Muslims are 100% certain too and Hindus. Because they were taught it when they were young and vulnerable to that kind of thing. In fact believers will continue to believe even when a test fails. "god didn't answer my prayer because he knew in his wisdom that was the best thing" They believe in miracles even though they stopped happening when we invented video recording :).

We know that only one of the religions at most can be true. That means nearly all of the preachers in the world ARE fake. Just watch the Atheist Experience here on KZfaq and listen to all the fallacious arguments theist callers give. In the entire history of the show there has never been a good argument to warrant belief in any god(s). If you think your god exists, ask him if he is also an Atheist, meaning that he rejects the belief that an even higher power than him created him.

It's really very simple ,,, come up with 1 actual piece evidence for a god. What's that piece you ask? If your god existed it would already know that answer wouldn't it? Most atheists simply can't believe that which isn't believable, that for which there is no viable evidence. Ask yourself why you don't believe in the thousands of other gods aside from yours? Now apply that same reasoning to your god and watch it vanish in a puff of logic.
