A thousand videos on KZfaq on how to do this. But so far, not one mentions how to finish the landing. Do people use additional treads and cut off the bull-nose? If other wood is used, the grain probably won't match and/or the thickness would be off. Certainly this is important to know?

The places that sell the prefab treads to go over the subfloor sell custom order landings too. If converted to hardwood idk

If its a reasonably sized landing, 36 inches or so, then I would use the same treads butted tightly together and yes cutoff the bullnose if they come with.

I give my thanks for the videos to the staff. May I ask please what is the name of the wood that is used for the stairs. and do I apply a specific coating to prevent sliding and falling down the stairs?

RareEnigma™ yes buy some pledge (available at you local Lowe’s) spray 8-10 coats on your new steps and wear soft socks.

Cool. The thing I don’t feel comfortable with is the cutting though. Would Lowe’s do it if I brought measurements?

In my experience, Lowe's will cut wood for you if you buy it there, but they're also careful to say there's not a 100% guarantee it will be perfect. That said, it's always been close enough for my needs.

You use a landing tread, and then treads without bullnose or moulding to fill in the landing. Alternatively you can use tongue and grove, or other complimentary/contrasting flooring on the landing to get the look you desire. Some prefer to cut the landing flooring at an angle to give flow to the pathway - depends on the size of the landing.

I bet them stairs felt squishy as hell. I also don't like the use of adhesive to hold the new treads and risers. If you need to replace one it's gonna be hell getting the old one off.

So, invest in a nail gun or rent one from the local hardware store. I've got carpet, but it's on existing hardwood, so it'll be sanding/staining fer me!
