A great dish for January, this salad makes steak go further than traditional steak and chips - and the Asian aromatics such a chilli and ginger are incredibly good for you. Give it a go.

Nice dish. Does the fish sauce round out the dressing and become homogenous? When I make a Caesar I paste my anchovies (I don't really like fish sauce or anchovies on their own, but when added to something else [like Pad Thai] it makes the dish). I couldn't imagine a Caesar or a Pad Thai without the anchovies and fish sauce.

My god, this man's passion for food and how he explains it all is fantastic. I first heard of this guy from the NA version of Hell's Kitchen. Ahh to be a teen and to believe everything you see on TV. There's a lot of great chefs in the world out there, but his personality when presenting these recipes and steps for cooking is so engaging. I don't have the motivation to be as good as he is, but I respect him so much, especially in the way that he respects the ingredients that he uses. +1 subscriber You go Ramsay!

In my opinion steak medium rare is best as the main dish, not in something else. Like in a salad, places always serve it in doused in sauce (I always soak my salads ins ranch lol) so the steaks don't need to be juicy in salads, as their already is the flavor from the dressing.

Oh wow, looks delicious. I am so happy that you experienced Cambodia and Vietnam cooking, I have been to Cambodia several times and the sauce you make here is one of my all-time favourites, best made in small batches and fresh. I absolutely love this beef salad variation to one I had in Cambodia where they mix with tomatoes, shallots and also add fresh chopped coriander. I have discovered that this sauce makes a great variation to shrimp salad; is fabulous with cubed fresh ripe avocado and chopped shrimp.

This recipe is very affordable if you cut on the steak/use cheaper cuts or change to chicken breasts stir fried with loads of onions and lemongrass. Carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, shallots and peanuts are enough but you need all the stuff he used for the sauce. If you're looking for easy, cheap recipes, try Brothers Green Eats channel on KZfaq. They make $5 meals and $30 meals a week recipes and stuff like that. Even cheap vegetarian and vegan recipes. (:

You shouldn't even be thinking of soda, especially if you don't have that much money to spend. Don't even be thinking about cooking like this. Just buy bare minimum healthy foods (free range, organic chicken eggs), organic salad, wild caught fish (bristle / sardines) and etc. Yes, organic might be a bit more expensive, but what is your health worth to you, when you're sitting in a hospital one day with a serious illness because you didn't take care of your body years ago? Health should always be priority, no matter how much or how little money you make.
@GemBob123
@GemBob123 8 жыл бұрын
There is no scientific evidence to suggest that organic foods are better for your health. The pesticides found in ordinary food are too minimal to actually do any damage. It's a waste of money, especially if one can't even afford to buy a can of coke.

Most chefs say turn once and once only. Thats for the purpose of having an even color through the steak. The way Heston does it, however, is he keeps flipping it and cooking it evenly on each side so it'll stay evenly colored. It's all about preference and method. They both will work really.

Peanuts are very common in Thai and Vietnamese dishes, especially in salads. It does seem odd, but works very well in these sorts of dishes. It adds texture and balance to dishes that tend to be lacking in crunch.

Gordon takes them out of the pan just before the steaks are done. That's how I was taught too. If the steak is cooked perfectly in the pan, it will be over cooked on the plate. Take it out just before it's the way you want it, then let it rest. By the time it's done resting, it will be cooked perfectly.
