Thanks, it was pretty tough, though. I tired it before I passed it off to our dog... not super enjoyable, but she was happy! 😆

Can I take a frozen venison steak and put it right in a marinate? Or what is the best way to thaw it and for how long? Please and thank you

You totally can put it right in! If you throw it in a ziploc bag you could put that it in a cold water bath. It could take anywhere from 1-3 or 4 hours doing that, but it would be faster than leaving it in your fridge for a day or so. I generally do a warm water bath with all my meat (not recommended) I'm just generally in a hurry and have forgotten to take mine out! So that may take 15 mins to half an hour then I pop mine in marinade after that. Then leave on your marinade as long as directed. A shorter amount of time, less impact on the flavor of the meat, longer time, a greater infusion of flavor. Hope that helps!

So wait, you marinade it to get rid of the original gamey flavor? I’ve only had venison once, about 30 years ago when a friend of mine up in Paul’s Smith NY went hunting and brought it back to the dorm and I believe he cooked it on a grill. All I remember is that I loved the flavor. I’m not entirely sure if he marinated it in anything so I’m thinking i might not want to.

Some people are not a fan of the gamey flavor and depending on how it was handled in the field or butchered, it may be more or less strong. Don't get me wrong, we love a good venison steak with salt and pepper cooked on the grill, but sometimes it's nice to change things up or bring in other complementary flavors so it's not just bold, yet beautiful. 😉

I've never once had a complaint about an off flavor of venison. Alot of people don't process and handle the meat properly which can destroy it's fantastic flavor.

It's true, how you handle it in the field totally plays a part in the taste back home. And when you're butchering too, if you knick the gland on the legs or forget to remove the hidden gland within the leg muscle you're in for a "treat" later. 🤢
