I have a reversable heat pump. I cool the water to 82 degrees everynight. I run from 11pm to 6am. I live in Phoenix and I don't see a big increase in my electric bill because I cool in off peak ours which is about 1/3 the cost as the peak hours. Water will heat up to about 86 degrees by the time I go swimming after 4pm and then the cycle starts over. Cooler water is better for the pool chemicals.

I moved my pool into the shade of some mesquite trees this year for this reason. Now I have a love/hate realtionship with those trees. I love that they shade the pool from the blistering desert sun. Hate all the debree they drop into the pool. I'm thinking next year trying shade cloth instead. I may try an airator next year too. Not sure if it would have done any good this summer. The tenoerafure has yet to get below 96 this summer.

That's a tough trade off for sure. Shade helps but debris doesn't!
@SimpleDesertRose

@@SwimUniversity no it doesn't. I'm over pea soup for a pool so I'm moving it next season and putting up some shade cloth. I"m over the debris.

When vacuuming pool should I shut pump off prior for amount of time to allow debris or dead algae to settle at the bottom

Vacuuming will kick things up naturally, so you don't really have to wait. But skim and brush beforehand.

Man, can you do a vid on water features? I have a waterfall and my PH levels are always up. I’m wondering if I should run it significantly more or less. Usually just run it for 1 hour a day. I read something about lowering your alkalinity to stop the off gassing too. Very lost on this one

A cover and a dark bottom pool ours is high 80s low 90s most the summer. Cant take off the cover due to too much evaporation. All the cold water is in the deep end..so if you swim around and stir up the water it mixes and helps. Mostly ill turn on the hose for 20 min if its in the 90s and i want to go in..but it also feels kinda nice..but bad for plaster.

Try running your pump and filter 24/7 for a day or two. Then clean it and run again. That should help.

The only option available to me is the one you didn't count - dumping in a bunch of ice. I may buy a few bags and dump them in after sundown.

We know lots of people who do that. Sometimes it's the only option.

Pool temp is 93F right now so this is definitely useful for everyone in my area. Just because it’s not helpful to you it’s very narrow minded to disregard it as useless information. I appreciate the content and the effort (even when it doesn’t apply to me)
