I can completely relate to the 10 minutes of quiet for mama. Sometimes the noise level in our home peaks and I just need a minute for my overstimulated brain to calm down. My kids are very respectful of that, and it helps keep peace in our home. Loved this video so much! ❤️❤️

I totally do the 1hr quiet time too. I have a 1yr old who then sleeps for 2-3hrs. The 6 &7yr old will do some educational app on their screens for 30min and then do quiet play. I love it! I always end up having lunch then cleaning though haha but for my mental sanity I need a clean clutter free space. Great video!

This makes me feel a lot better. I'm actually not a mother. Not only am I an introvert, I'm also on the autism spectrum and can relate to all the things you said about being around loud people, people all talking at once, loud noises... and for me, you can add bright lights to that list of irritants (sensory issues related to ASD). Despite what people think, ASD actually presents and affects everyone who has it differently. Mine doesn't affect me quite as much as some others. I'm very high functioning. I've never really had any learning challenges but I do have some issues with socializing but I think that also has to do with me being an introvert as well. I've always wanted to be a mom, but was concerned that these things might make me a bad mother. Hearing your experience as an introverted mom and also seeing that not all women on the spectrum (not saying you are, just mean going by experiences of other women like myself) are bad at parenting, I'm starting to have more confidence that maybe motherhood is doable for me. Would definitely need to do some self-care and probably some counseling as well (which I do anyway), but with those things and God's help, can someday be a good mother. And I would want to homeschool and kids I have so hopefully can do that successfully as well. I don't like the stuff they are teaching kids in public schools nowadays and brainwashing them so I wouldn't want that for my kids.

Agree. I think there’s a bit too much emphasis on self love and self care and self everything, and I don’t think it’s having the healthiest of impacts on our society. Love this point that you made and I couldn’t agree more. Self care is about taking care of ourselves so that we can continue to serve others. I love that. So true. This is a message very worth spreading. ❤️❤️❤️

Yes there is a difference between self-care and selfish care. Like you, I see a lot of the latter going on and I'm not a fan of that either. When we are too overwhelmed help ourselves so that we can better help others, not just for our own indulgences.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm an introvert as well and homeschool my children, ages 6 & 4, so I definitely can relate! I love the book, "Introverted Mom," and completely agree with you about it. I'm also super talkative when I'm around the right people, and so is my daughter, so I appreciated your reminder on how to approach that with grace. Thank you for your tip on setting a timer and asking your kids for some quiet time while driving. Love that idea! Hope you have a great school year!

Great video! I went to a kids Valentine’s Day party w/ about 30 kids plus parents and had to take the entire next day off of homeschool because it just wiped me out. I have to be very intentional about the activities we participate in because I know I’ll need downtime afterwards and have to budget for that.

I am totally an introvert too!!! I grew up an only child, and I LOVE to be by myself.😆 Not all the time of course. But I can go long periods of time by myself before I feel the need to be around others. I am also starting to wonder if introverts are introverts because maybe they are highly sensitive, or at least are more sensitive to stimuli. When I say highly sensitive, I’m talking about getting easily overwhelmed by a lot of stimuli, where your senses and braking are on overload. I know I can’t take a lot of high energy or high activity/loud noise for long periods of time. Anyway, yes this makes being with your kids all the time very tiring!! And I’m not a morning person, so getting them to bed earlier is key for me! Especially now that they stopped taking naps!😢 I’m thankful it’s spring, not winter!!! And at least the older they get, the better they are with entertaining themselves and playing quietly(or quieter). God bless you and thanks for the video!

Yes, I've wondered the same thing about being highly sensitive. Loud restaurants or groups of people drain me super fast.

As a fellow introverted, sensitive (and sometimes talkative) mom I did a lot of head nodding during the video. I have so many of the same feelings. It was a great reminder to keep my attitude in check and make sure I’m treating my family in a loving way no matter what. We live in a smaller home, my husband works from home full time now and we are generally home a lot. So we’ve got 4 people in our house all the time. We recently put our boys in the same bedroom to make a school room. This also creates a possible quiet space (for me or the kids) during the day. It’s sometimes hard to have our kids share a room but having that option for quiet during school or otherwise is so important in this season.
@ThisHomeschoolHouse
@ThisHomeschoolHouse 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, room sharing certainly has its pros and cons. I will say that it's gotten better as my kids have gotten older. In fact, I asked my daughter just yesterday if she'd prefer her own room and she looked at me with shock and said "of course not!". Ha!

This was so good. I always thought I was an extrovert just because I love being around people and talking! Hearing you describe it, I think I am an introvert. I feel so drained after too much interaction with people, even though I love the interaction. Even the whole noise thing. I always hear moms say they listen to podcasts/books while their kids do stuff, but hearing the kids and the podcast in my ear overwhelms me. I'm definitely implementing these ideas!

What a great video. Prior to having children both my husband and I were very extroverted and were always socializing. Fast forward 15 years..our oldest son has autism and is very loud and has always required so much energy from us. I don't know if I'd say we are introverts, but socializing with others is exhausting because we are spent every single day. I have definitely said, "Mama needs 10 minutes of no talking please!" I know deep down I'm still an extrovert though because I never feel like I need to be alone. I prefer not to be. But I need quiet sometimes! Love what you shared about self care. Spot on.

She is extroverted, chatty and loud. 😂 I need to work on my attitude. And yes to needing daily quiet time! Amen!! These tips are so encouraging. I recently listened to the book 8 great smarts. I learned that I think/process primarily through people. I think I always thought I was extroverted but now I think I am an introvert but need people to bounce ideas off of. Its hard to balance. Yes! When at the social event, I push myself to "be friendly" and think of conversation. On the way home I usually have a headache and feel completely wiped out. I tend to overanalyze conversations and wonder if attending was even worth it at all. As a homeschool mom, I truly struggle for wanting to "clock out". 😂 Since my "job" isn't traditional, I need to set more clear boundaries for my kids. I wish I had started a "quiet time" when my kids were younger. Now I feel it is too late (my kids are 10, 9, 6 and 4). No one naps any more. 😉 My husband works an abnormal schedule and I am on my own with parenting a lot of the time. The Lord has been good to give strength and help in time of need.❤ This was a very relatable video! Thanks!

My brain does the same!!! I’m watching this video with my husband as he’s is and he’s a homeschool dad. We share the responsibility of homeschooling.the extrovert of the marriage (me) wants less kids and more of a relationship with my kids and my husband keeps wanting more kids but he forgets the relationship part!!! We don’t do quiet times but my husband goes and chills in another room if he’s not working at certain points of the day. We have open discussion about how daddy is made different.

I'm curious what are some of your children's favourite quiet time activites. Is it mostly just reading? I think I could get away with my 6 and 8 year old, but the 3 year old is just NOT quiet, and he is also way past his naps unfortunately. I tend to revert to screen time for him which I know isn't great.
@ThisHomeschoolHouse

For quiet time they're allowed to play with toys. We have cubbies that each have a different type of toy in them. I let my kids pick one to take with them and they play with that during quiet time. My (almost) 7-year old mostly plays with his Lego. :)

Thank you for bringing this up! I am definitely an introvert as well. How do you deal with co-op type situations? My kids want to be around their homeschool friends several times a week but that means I have to socialize with their parents and I really don't want to be around other people that often! Haha.
@ThisHomeschoolHouse
@ThisHomeschoolHouse 2 жыл бұрын
We really haven't stepped into the co-op situation very much yet. Because of the state of the world the past couple of years it's been tricky. My kids are still pretty young as well. When I was homeschooled we did co-op once per week and other than that it was just random visits with friends and also church. I definitely won't be doing any kind of homeschool meet up more than once per week though! Ha!
