How to correctly set up PS5 with Sony A90J and HT-A9

There are very few videos here talking about the proper way to set up PS5 with the above equipment, but unfortunetly, they are all wrong. To correctly set up PS5, and to get VRR and 360 Spatial sound, you need to do the following.
Step 1: Connect HT-A9 to HDMI 3 port (eArch), and connect PS5 to HDMI 4 port.
Step 2: Configure external input settings on A90J, such that PS5 can have the VRR available.
Step 3: Configure sound output seetings on A90J, so that the sound signal from PS5 can pass into HT-A9, uncompressed.
Step 4: Confirgure PS5's audio and video output.

Thanks mate. I have a LG C1, so I just put it in passthrough mode also I'm not sure on what I'm doing but it seems to be working.

1:48 HDMI Device Type should be set to AV Amplifier, otherwise spot on. I have this setup, and also suggest turning on Auto Volume in the ht-a9 settings menu.

Thanks for your comment. It actually doesn't matter, the sound signal is passed to TV, and then TV can decide to pass it onto HT-A9, or output using TV speakers(if you have turned off the audio system). And yes, Auto Volume on is a general better option, but it's not relevant to the topic of this video.

@@mikael231 You can just set the audio output of PS5 to TV, then the TV will route it to whatever sound system you have connected to it. The only uncompressed sound format of PS5 is Linear PCM, which HT-A9 can parse perfectly.

@@mikael231 Like Kevin said, you can leave the option as TV in the PS5 audio settings and you still get the full sound. Regarding HT-A9 settings, I play and watch movies with 'Auto Volume' set to On, leave Immersive AE on with the mode as Cinema. Leave the PS5 option as Linear PCM for best gaming audio. The PS5 does support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X when playing 4k discs, but you need to press the Options button while the movie is playing, press the 3 dots, settings, change audio format to bitstream. I watched Scarface on 4K last night but was only getting DTS-HD MA, not DTS:X. I've ordered a 3M optical HDMI cable to replace my 3M copper based HDMI cable to see if that fixes it. I get Dolby-TrueHD just fine though.

Hey, the PS5 recently got a Dolby Atmos update, should we set linear PCM to Atmos? By doing so, will there be an audio delay?

That’s a good point. I’ve tested it and seems Dolby Atmos is the right choice as of today. This is because HT-A9 can correctly decode Dolby Atmos and map it into its spatial audio field.

@@kevinmore2012 thanks, last time I tried Dolby Atmos with my A95K I had some audio delay. I guess Bitstream remains for Blu Rays also? I just recently got the HT A9 and I’m in the process of setting it all up.

@@bu5094 For Blu-ray, I suggest you buy a dedicated player. PS5 is good, but that good, while you can have a very good Blu-player for around 99$

Hi Bro, i just got the ht a9 however, i dont get any audio output from it when i use my ps5 using hmdi port 4 and when i switch to my reciever on hdmi port 1, i have the sony a90j as well even when i switch on netflix no audio, i can only listen to the demo or if i pair it with my phone via bluetooth, could you please help ?

@@salehaljouf Dumb question, but have you turned on the power of the speakers and connect the black box to the TV's HDMI 3 port?

@@kevinmore2012 yes, all connected and to port 3 as well, speakers are on have the green light as well, i’m not sure why im getting no audio

It finally worked, the problem was with the center channel wire for some reason it blocks out the sound from the tv
