I love your masterboards and you are definitely not alone, I have to audition every piece in every position constantly! I always have to tell myself, don’t overthink it, I am getting better because I watch you and Shawn Petite (mixed media) all the time. I loved when you were cutting them up blind, the pieces were perfect and I love what you did with them, especially the tiny tag with yellow ribbon! Very fun episode!💕🇨🇦

Dear Barbara, l think we get as much enjoyment as you do when you reveal your "blind" ephemera pieces. The anticipation of what you have created is exciting. I am a card maker and have been one for a hundred years now. Junk journalling has helped me let go of some of my perfectionism, it has actually been quite freeing for me. We love watching everything you make and love how you don’t over-edit your videos, leaving in your mistakes. I teased Margreth over at Seven Plaza about creating a drinking game every time she said "eyeball". We have considered making one every time you utter "Oh, no!" 😉 Keep doing what you’re doing and making your videos. I look forward to watching them, Barbara 🇦🇺

I don’t do perfection anymore I have learned over the years to just go for it and if I like the piece then I’m happy but if it doesn’t I will put it away for another time. Nothing is perfect and I’m not struggling with it anymore ❤love your videos thank you 🙏

We perfectionists think in terms of symmetry and rules. Selecting coordinating papers in advance and following the rule of not allowing edges to align gives us what we need to achieve ‘random’ without struggling. Thanks for the great video!

I love the pop of pink we see throughout your Journal. It always amazes me how a piece doesn’t look finished until it has those white splatters. Or GOLD!! Yeah, I’ve realized I have an addiction to metallic paint. Lol. These masterboard videos are always so fun. (Little cancer update. I was scheduled for surgery on the 19th. But they are postponing till probably August because they started me on a Hormone Blocker. They want to give it a chance to shrink the tumor. It’s a med I will be on after surgery too so if there’s cancer somewhere else, it will kill that also.)💗💞💗

Barbara!!I still struggle with control and perfection! I can't tell you how many times that I have thrown perfectly good art out because I didn't think it was quite right! Junk journaling and watching you has helped me so much to see things differently and value the project in a whole new way. It's still very hard sometimes, so thank you for helping! U r definitely not alone! It has taken everything in me while I'm creating not to lay it all out first before gluing! Coming from a scrapbooking background 20yrs ago and everything had to be perfect for ur layouts to junk journaling and creating collage and masterboards, it's been hard!

You definitely are not alone Barbara! Hi. My name is Carrie & I’m a perfectionist 😁 Watched a cool anti-perfectionist collage class yesterday actually. You make 3 pages that are very different (one was fully patterned with lots of colour, one was a B&W drawing & the last page was shades of black. But they can be anything really, just need to be a big contrast to each other). You put the three pages on top of each other with the black one on top so you can’t see shapes, then you use a craft knife or scissors to cut them out all at the same time into different shaped & sized pieces. Then you select pieces from each page & arrange them into a series of collages, adding additional paint, crayons, markers, collage paper etc as the mood takes you. Great way to keep things random! I love your method of blind cutting too. I really must try that

I totally understand the 'perfectionist' aspect. Before I started my Junk Journal Journey, I did a lot of card making - and everything had to be 'straight and perfect' because the item was going to be given to another person. Now, thanks to watching creators like you and Luise, I'm learning to 'free things up' - to explore and therefore discover. And it's beautiful. I'm often amazed at the results. That said, I still often feel a bit 'bugged' when I reckon something doesn't look quite right - but, I'm not sure that this is the perfectionist popping up again, I think it is more that our artistic self senses what could be improved upon. 🧡💚🤎

I’m thinking lately of the differences between what is perfect (objective) and what is pleasing to the eye (subjective). Or what we, as makers, are proud of or most happy with. I see you carefully choosing colors and placement. I might choose differently because neither of us is looking for perfection. We’re looking for happiness, I think. We’d probably both agree where we’d prefer perfection, and maybe that’s in the bones of a book rather than its decoration. I do like things to be squared up and intentional. I can square things up with rulers. I can also be careful in execution. Mistakes will happen (oopsies). We chose what we’re willing to live with. Maybe overthinking causes less regret, tho we’re talking within the scheme of things. I like what you make, that’s why I watch you. 💕

Deine Masterboards sind mega toll geworden liebe Barbara. DIe Farben und Muster, einfach super. Ich werde heute auch mal eines machen, mein erstes😊. Deine beiden haben mich so inspiriert. ❤ Und zum Thema Perfektionismus: Ich denke immer, dass ich eher chaotisch bin und weit weg vom Perfektionismus. Aber manchmal doch nicht, und zwar dann, wenn ich relativ neu, noch unsicher und unerfahren in einem Themenbereich bin. Aber mich reizt immer das Experimentelle und das Ausprobieren. Und doch ist es leichter gesagt, den Kopf auszuschalten, einfach zu machen, loslassen, als getan. Weißt du ich denke, Perfektionismus hat auch immer was mit Kontrollzwang zu tun, und das wiederum mit Ängsten und Unsicherheiten und davor bin ich leider auch nicht gefeit. Aber kreatives Arbeiten hilft dabei ungemein, wirkt positiv und bringt einen auch zum Reflektieren. Schade ist halt, dass wir alle hier in der virtuellen Welt zu wenig persönlichen, echten Austausch haben, den der ist durch nichts zu ersetzen. So wie zum Beispiel bei deinem tollen Workshop mit Alex oder auch gerade jetzt bei dem wo Susanne war. Liebe Grüße und Umarmung Ute

@@49dragonflies Das stimmt liebe Barbara, es ist toll, dass es diese weltumspannende Community gibt, denn jeder der sich mit JJ beschäftigt, hat wohl mehr oder weniger die Erfahrung gemacht, von Nicht-JJ eher als etwas wunderlich wahr genommen zu werden, oder belächelt zu werden oder ähnliches. Und deswegen sind die Social Medien echt wichtig, weil einfach schön ist, zu wissen, es gibt überall Menschen (gefühlt 99% weibliche Wesen) 😉 die, dieselbe Freude haben, sich inspirieren, von denen man lernen kann. Das ist schon großartig. ❤️

Oh I made the harlequin stamp but it was a little too 'clean' so I grunged it up by attacking it with scissors🙊. I really struggle with over thinking🙈. I once crafted with the inside of an old helium balloon and it looked similar to your napkin. Yes, perfectionist here 🙈 I always do the triangle despite it not mattering. Luise has a great method for making oxides waterproof without microglaze! It's her 'gel plate effect ' video. You're brave cutting from the back! Lol I had to get a new punch board because I wore it out, but don't make envelopes on it 😄. I bought a notch cutter and don't like it as much 🙈. They work really well in that journal 😍. I need to stop hoarding mine don't I? Tfs and have a great day 💖💖💖

Ich denke, ich habe natürlich das gleiche Problem…🤣 und bin gerade an einem Punkt an dem ich immer mehr versuche, den kleinen Monk in mir kaltzustellen 😂. Es ist so wahnsinnig schwer, lohnt sich aber immer! Mich beruhigt irgendwie sehr, dass selbst jemand wie du, der so viel Erfahrung hat, immer noch aktiv dagegen angehen muss 🙈. Terrific master board! I don't think of myself as a perfectionist but then I was thinking that, if I'm gluing down randomly without laying it out first, then I put my least favorites on the bottom so my favorites are on the top. Too controlling? Defeating the purpose? Yikes! I will follow your lead and try not to over think it!

ARE DISTRESS OXIDES AND DYES ALWAYS REACTIVE TO water.so I cannot dye paper and then seal it? I have bought a lot of them thinking they are permanent.I am so new to this and have dived into the need to have hole.what about coffee dyed and tea dyed and other home made dyes.will they smudge too?I think I am in big trouble.

The distress inks and oxides are water reactive. You would have to spray them with a sealer to make them permanent. Yea and coffee dyed papers are permanent once dry. There is a lot to learn, but you will get there ❤️
