Hey everyone, Maggi here, back with another exciting project to help you bring your brand to life! Today, I'll show you how to create something unique using three different elements: a product type, a decoration method, and a theme. Let's get started!
Step 1: Choosing the Product
First up, we'll select our product. For this project, I've chosen a 40 oz tumbler, which is super popular right now and perfect for keeping hydrated. The tumbler I'll be using is similar to the well-known Stanley brand, making it a great canvas for our design.
Step 2: Picking the Decoration Method
Next, we'll decide on the decoration method. For this tumbler, I'll be using sublimation. Sublimation is perfect for this type of project as it allows for vibrant, full-color designs that are durable and dishwasher-safe.
Step 3: Selecting the Theme
The final element is the theme, which is the true wildcard. For this project, I've picked a spring/summer theme. When I think of spring and summer, the first thing that comes to mind is golf. My mom and I are taking golf lessons, and the sport's aesthetics and colors are perfect for this project. Additionally, I considered a tropical vibe to add some fun and freshness to the design.
Getting Inspired with AI
To find the perfect design, I used AI technology through Discord's MidJourney bot. I prompted it to generate a tropical golf course scene in a rectangular format, ideal for wrapping around the tumbler. After a few iterations, I chose a design that featured beautiful sand pits, flowers, and textured clouds, giving off the perfect tropical golf vibe.
Designing in Illustrator
Once I had my design, I opened it in Illustrator and began fitting it into a template. I measured the tumbler and created three sections: top, middle, and bottom. The top section is the largest, followed by the middle section with a slight taper, and finally, the bottom section with a more pronounced taper. Using Illustrator's gradient mesh tool, I adjusted the design to fit each section seamlessly.
Printing and Preparing the Tumbler
With my design ready, I printed it on sublimation paper. To ensure everything aligned perfectly, I first printed the design on regular paper and tested it on the tumbler. This step helped me avoid wasting sublimation paper. After confirming the fit, I cut out the design pieces and taped them to the tumbler, removing the handle and lid to prevent melting in the sublimation oven.
Sublimating the Tumbler
I preheated my sublimation oven to 400°F and set the timer for 5 minutes. Using oven mitts for safety, I carefully placed the tumbler in the oven. After letting it cool, I peeled off the tape to reveal a beautifully sublimated tumbler. Despite the challenges of sublimating a tapered middle section, the design turned out great.
Marketing Your Custom Tumbler
To market this custom tumbler, I used Canva to create an Instagram story. Canva's user-friendly interface and pre-sized canvases make it easy to design professional-looking posts. I chose a tropical-themed background and added the tumbler image, adjusting the light settings to ensure the product looked its best. Finally, I added a logo to represent a women's golf accessories company, highlighting the growing recognition of female athletes.

Transforming a plain tumbler into a custom, eye-catching product is both fun and rewarding. By following these steps, you can create unique items for your brand that stand out and attract customers. Remember, a little extra effort in branding and presentation can make a significant difference.
