Speaking as both a player and GM, never, NEVER, interrupt your GM while monologuing. You will both A) make the monologue last longer, and B) incur the wrath of someone who obviously spends far too much time writing up long winded agony. This comes from experience in both situations.
@ScarletFlames12 жыл бұрын
Unless you interrupt the monologue in character, or as the hypothetical thing happened the monologue was a minute long and was used as cover to cast the spell. Of course it has to be appropriate for your character to do so, and not just because you thought the DM was being annoying, such as a stealthed character the NPC hasn't spotted taking an action such as stealing, placing trap(s) or simply attacking. But if you want to try to do stuff while an NPC is doing a monologue try to interrupt in the beginning or it will piss off your DM regardless because now he's reading the "awesome" monologue awkwardly from the middle of it or lost his train of thought and now he's going to munchkin against party into oblivion as retaliation.
@BucketCrust2 жыл бұрын
@@ScarletFlames1 If you're gonna interrupt, do it OOC. Like I said, if he's got time to make a ten minute monologue he's got time to think of a punishment for interrupting it.

@@BucketCrust Nah, my subtle spell exists for this exact purpose. If my DM is going to have the enemy monologue at us I'm handing him a paper at the start of the fight showing how many times I've cast party buffs.
@mrosengren41302 жыл бұрын
So, funny thing. You can actually hide a spell or command activation in a monologue, so it makes occasional sense to interrupt. Granted, I'm also aware of at least one homebrew spell from 3.5 that dealt 1d4 ,mental ability burn per interruption while said monologue was ongoing. As in, the one that interrupted you took 1d4 to all their mental ability scores that could not be healed with magic every time they tried butting in. That was a funny session, but pissed off so many people :D
@BucketCrust2 жыл бұрын

Altruicious needs to not flee, but move into the group to fight. 1. That seems to be how he's gonna do damage anyways 2. It would require anyone melee fighting him to maneuver around the flaming spheres 3. If he grapples an opponent (likely, as he seems to have no melee weapons, and is a pro wrestler), he can hold them within the flaming spheres' range while still damaging them with his free hand
@bendromeda16882 жыл бұрын
Nope. Here's the play-by-play assuming Altruishus only has melee attacks. - Altruishus(A) starts further than 30 ft away from the spellcasters (if the spellcasters are smart and stay back) - runs in, too far away to attack. Either he dashes or he goes for the opportunity attacker (O) - bad either way. Assuming he dashes, the spellcasters back all the way up, and keep moving the sphere. Return to step 1. - OR he tries to go for O, maybe gets a good hit, but the spellcasters are close enough to do heals if they need to, and now A is locked in combat with a Sentinel with a reach weapon. And he still gets bashed by fire damage. Return to step one. Lose-lose scenario.
@dairoleon26822 жыл бұрын
@@bendromeda1688 You're assuming that O succeeds on their attacks. If they don't, then he gets within *his* reach of them (the spear having a slight reach advantage), then he grapples them and now they have disadvantage on using their attacks and the casters, unless they have Spell Sniper or are using save-based spells, have disadvantage on their attacks. Granted, the sphere(s) would still be a problem with him, but if he's actually grappler focused and successfully grappling O, he could keep maneuvering himself and O relative to the spheres so she gets damaged at least as much as he does. Considering that he's presented as a boss, he probably has class levels, likely Barbarian or Monk, which provides him further resistance and potential ability to evade the spells. Then again, he still has the problem of being a solo melee fighter against another melee fighter and two spellcasters, so he's already at a pretty bad disadvantage.

In our group, I play a tiefling, and I'm somehow the only one who doesn't constantly put everything on fire. The warlock, artificer, and especially the WATER GENASI DRUID use tons of fire magic. In the first session we fought some bandits, and she started a forest fire that threatened to hit a nearby farming community. We helped putting it out before it could do too much damage. The villagers thanked us for helping, and we quickly noped out of there.

We once did a similar combo but it was a druid and a barbarian. The druid cast Wall of Thorns then the barbarian shoved the enemy to the wall as his first attack dealing 7d8 slashing damage, then he'd grapple him as his 2nd attack to keep him on the wall. At the start of the enemy's turn he takes another 7d8 slashing damage. The barbarian on his next turn would then drag him out of the wall, then drag him back in to repeat the cycle (all this time the rest of the party was taking potshots at him as well). All the enemy could do was either shove the barbarian away or break free of the grapple.

Real fun starts when coridor is 5ft wide. Indiana johnes music intensifies, along with screams of singed goblins.

"it was a while back and I had hopes and dreams." will be part of my character backstory. xD

I'm afraid that is most people's backstory.

@@derekstein6193 Usually from what I've seen, they have revenge back stories. Whether it's their parents, friends, or land getting burned down, ect.

Here's how to deal with this situation as the bad guy, grapple one of the mages (or both) and ram them against their own flaming spheres

I love how the quiet old druid is always doing really brutal things. Like he was on-board for cook-and-book with 0 convincing, and here he’s ready to kill on command
