Yes, but those on TOH need to remember that heating and cooling issues are VERY DIFFERENT, in the SOUTHERN States, HEAT is LESS of an issue, it's the High Humidity combined with temperatures above 80f degree's 9 months of the year that is more of an issue. 🤨🤠

Absolutely solid when Rich just keeps chewing on an M&M for a minute from 2:16 or so. Makes for great continuity which is really important in home improvement videos. Or they could have just taken those jars of chocolates away from him and I wouldn't have to see and hear him eat a pnut m&m

Great video. Would love to see more videos on energy efficiency. Saving energy saves money month after month, year after year. Too many people only look for the cheapest upfront cost and loose out on the long term savings.

Richard, do you think you could explain ductwork planning for open concept - living room, dining room, kitchens? There are a number of things - one the size of the ductwork and how do you run it through the floor joist, carrying beam without using right turns which significantly reduce the efficiency of the flow.

What if you got a balloon frame? Most were designed not to be insulated (air flows up and out, like an air barrier). Atleast no mold. But I could use ATOH to visit and show me the solution to add mini-split to cool 1800 sqft of EmptyNester cottage.

In TEXAS, it's more important to be thinking AIR CONDITIONING, as TEXAS winter's often PRETTY MILD and rarely lasts longer than 3 months. IT'S SUMMER HEAT 9 months of the year. WHAT'S SNOW? Haven't seen any in SE Texas for several YEARS.🤠

No, just FACT of LIFE in Texas South of I-10, air conditioning is a NECESSITY. 🤠

@@davidhbingham6812, Agree ! AC is needed almost everywhere in the U.S. Even if temps only reach 80-85 in someones area, but the Dew point is in the 70-75 range, it feels like you're in the Rain Forrest ! AC is awesome.

How many candies per watermelon? Instead of putting the candy back in the jar, put it on the porch of the model house. Converting the candy to about the size in scale of a watermelon. I'm not sure if watermelon comes in orange color yet. It was a orange color BTU he picked up and put back in the jar.- Kourios Oranj by The Fall.👍

Why aren't there any HVAC installed in West African homes? I'm interested in stalling one but not sure it's needed in the tropics

Air sealing, super insulation, triple pane windows, high efficiency heating and air conditioning systems, LED light bulbs, set back thermostats, high efficiency appliances, solar panels, battery storage and a 220 volt outlet in the garage for an electric vehicle charger should all be considered in any new building or remodel. Using the sun to drive your car or using the battery backup when there is a power outage is great and there is no weekly use of the generator to test it and no annual maintenance cots. Solar is a much better option than a natural gas backup generator. So many ways to reduce your heating and cooling expenses.and have a more comfortable home.

You’d need an incredibly large battery bank to be able to store up enough energy to have have any real use. It’s far too expensive, and probably worth the weekly run to just have a generator instead

Kenz300 x I don’t know about that. One Powerwall doesn’t go very far in terms of continuous use. For the cost of two Powerwalls plus installation you can get a whole house generator ran off of natural gas that can run indefinitely as long as you have a gas supply.

Wow this is hard to understand. My attic is open all around the edge. I have installation in my attic. But winter is very cold and for summer is very hot. Is it necessary to have this panels that is like a vent all around the attic?

Jose Hernandez yes. The venting extends the lifespan of the roof and stops ice damming.

@@mjlyco9752, Agree. Ice dams are caused by heat leaking into the eave area and melting then re-freezing over and over.

Yes, your attic is supposed to match the temperature outside. This is so condensation doesn't form under the roof sheathing. Your openings are called soffit vents. Those bring air into the attic, which escapes at the peak of the roof at the ridge vent (or gable vent on the tall sides). The insulation in your ceiling keeps your house where it needs to be. If you want to improve your home's temperature, add more insulation where it already is.

Exactly what I was thinking yesterday, humidity in 75% and higher range along Southern states west to Gulf Coast of Texas frequently has FEELS like temperatures close to 100f degrees much of the year, we rarely have issues in heating a house or office building. 🤠

That didnt really explain how to create a plan at all. It just explained how some forces work and that you need ventilation. Not a bad video, but a completely misleading title.

I call BS. The southern porch overhang blocks the solar gain in the winter ❄️. The overhang is way to large to allow any gain. And the south facing windows without overhangs let in the sun’s heat even in the summer. Very poor design
