In this video the Dude discusses how to utilize your BioDude bioactive Terra Flora kit. This terrarium is being built for poison dart frogs and discusses their husbandry requirements when setting up this type of terrarium. Be sure to subscribe and visit www.thebiodude.com
Note: We upgraded the HydroGrow - It is no longer white and a different type of drainage layer. You can find the info here:
www.thebiodude.com/collection...
www.thebiodude.com/products/d...
Also, for the bromeliads: It is best to create some open area from the roots so they attach into the wood for efficiently. Cutting a tiny portion of the base on the bottom to expose as well as trimming the roots can make a huge difference in your success mounting vs. planting. Sorry if it was not clear on that! I got this recommendation from Troy Goldberg at Troys Tropical Garage on KZfaq.

I know it's old but you could also use a turkey baster/long dropper to reach down under the substrate against the glass to the water basin. Or if you have an open pond, you could pull water out of that as it gets too high

Hi, I've been growing broms for a long time and i think that the main reason why offsets die from rotting before getting roots is that people keep them far too wet. The cups should be wet but many broms hate having their roots too wet or the base gets too wet before it can take root. Many of the mini hybrid Neos will root fairly quickly especially if dipped into rooting hormone. Transplanting offsets is less likely to transmit disease into a tank. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying your rooted broms aren't a good idea, of course rooted ones will get going a lot quicker than non-rooted offsets. Great video!

Ive seen this kind of thing before but i was wondering if the exo terra's glass could handle drilling.

Very helpful! I have some questions. I want to set up a red eyed tree frog terrarium and I was wondering, do I even need mistking? I am just a kid who really likes plants and frogs but doesn’t have $130 to drop on a mister..... Second question: in the description on your website for the moss spores it says to use just distilled water and not tap water. When can I use normal people water on the moss? Thanks! I probably won’t have this set up for another year because we’re moving soon but I love doing research and I am going to try to save up at least $400 because these frog terrariums are COSTY.

HI Nicole. If it's spiderweb looking, it's completely normal and not a bad growth. Springtails help keep that in check. They will eat it for you. You can remove it if you like, but it's not necessary.

@TheBioDudeJoshHalter
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter 7 жыл бұрын
That and depending on where you have the nozzles the consistent shaking can mess up the front doors (hinges) eventually - word to the wise with Exo Terra's their door hinges are cheap and the less shaking/messing with occured the longer they last.
@polyhedralman7604
@polyhedralman7604 7 жыл бұрын
Is there such a strong shaking that it can damage the hinges? And how long does it takes to ruin them with this way? Maybe there is another type of nozzles that dont shaking so hard?(or, i think, it depends on the pump).

Its just the vibration of the tubes themselves when the water decides to push through. Even though it is not 'shaking' it is still causing vibrations that can hurt the hinges/doors long term

Hi! Me and my boyfriend are trying to build our first dart frog terrarium. We've got almost everything at home now, but we're not entirely sure what to use for lightning. We want to use real plants. We've been told we then need to have a uvb light for plants, lamp for warmth and a normal lamp. Is this all necessary? I thought I saw you using only one light. Please let us know!
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ilja, for a planted bio-active vivarium you need 2- 3 different lights. You need your: heat source, depending on species ; and UVB for your animals as well as a grow light for your plants. The UVB lighting used for reptiles does not produce the right level of Kelvins and Lumens to promote healthy plant growth. We do sell a product called a "Grow&Glow" light that is specialized to meet the needs of your plants. You can find it on our website at TheBioDude.com

For the bromeliads could I remove the dirt and put it on wood or does it need to be in the ground?
@LukinsNotmanMusic
@LukinsNotmanMusic 4 жыл бұрын
It’s depends on what type of bromilliad it is.

@@LukinsNotmanMusic He's talking about the overpriced Neoregelia this guy sells on his website. Yes, you can and should put them on wood. The BioDude doesn't know how to make backgrounds or do anything that is moderately difficult DIY so he has to resort to planting them in the ground, which isn't good.

Negative, they like it cooler and I would not recommend an UTH with a drainage layer. It will crack the bottom of the tank.

do you guarantee no unwanted critters in the leaves?
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter 2 жыл бұрын
We do not. We sort them, store them and rotate them and inspect them prior to bagging. Selling leaves in the scale that we do is actually quite challenging to do sustainably and ethically.

The shipping cost will be high. The biodude office is in Texas and I live in Ohio and the shipping cost for me is over 150.00 but then again I did order a lot from him.

how often do you have to clean the terrarium?!
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mirabirdy. I don't. That's the beauty of being bioactive, it's self cleaning and maintaining. Every now and them I will clean the glass or spot pic poop off the sides with arboreal animals like tree frogs, but as long as my biome is healthy and thriving there's no need. The micro and macrofauna do that for me.
