Self-Signed SSL Certificate creation command
openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout /etc/ssl/private/apache-selfsigned.key -out /etc/ssl/certs/apache-selfsigned.crt
Add the below SSL configuration lines in virtual host configuration.
SSLEngine on
SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem
SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
Apache modules to be enabled
a2enmod ssl
a2enmod headers

if I try this with a custom domain name it won't go to my website, it only works if I enter the ip address

Did you buy any domain from any DNS provider

@@krishnastechinfo No, it was just for practice purposes. I found out I had to edit my host file and add the IP address and domain name to make it work
