Wow!! 9 years later and this video still holds up and is very informative. I just created my first makefile!!

Makefiles have always thrown me off. I always stress them because every "tutorial" online goes super in-depth on stuff I don't really need at this point. Starting with the reference down a few lines was awesome and everything clicked when you explained it. Thank you!

I've just been winging it with the make files which was fine when we were doing single file programs, but now we're getting into programs with 20 or 30 files. Before watching this I had my makefiles setup to where they are recompiling everything every time I compiled. I was like there has to be a better way. This is it! Thank you so much You presented it in a simplified format and addressed every angle (like what "-c" is included for), demonstrated the relations between the main file, the function file, the header file, and the Makefile itself, and were very visual with your cursor which helps a lot. I was doing this stuff for class but literally didn't understand what I was doing, was just sort of plugging and chugging the commands. I now understand. You're a very good teacher keep it up!

Thank you for the simple explanation, it's really helpful. I've started using Makefiles for my Docker build pipelines today. I know it's not a conventional use of make, but it seems to work well. The different operands and functions in Makefiles still confuse me a bit though :(
