In this video demonstration we will look at how to deploy child domain in existing windows server 2012 R2 Forest Infrastructure.
In this example We have an existing Windows Server 2012 R2 root domain name mylab.local and we want to create child domain name usa.mylab.local.
We will also configure site and subnet for the lab environment.

But what about routing?How do you have the subnets communicate to each other?You need NAT or maybe a virtual switch no?I would appreciate a link on how to enable connectivity(I use bare metal for parrent and vm for child controller).......Thanksssss

I do have one question. Before adding the server roles etc, does the server that's going to be configured as a child domain need to be joined on the domain already? or is it just a server with the network configurations only
@MSFTWebCast
@MSFTWebCast 5 жыл бұрын
It is not compulsory to join the server to the domain but its up to you, which option you preferred? But personally in live environment i preferred to join the server to the domain.

Congratulations for your video! I have a question: in child domain controller, how DNS IP is used after configuration? Parent domain controller (like in video) or itself? Thank you
@MSFTWebCast
@MSFTWebCast 7 жыл бұрын
Primary DNS IP will be own IP (local dns server IP) and you can use parent domains DNS IP as a Secondary DNS Address.

Hi! So, if i have a separate DNS server (no ADDS installed), then i need to use that DNS server's IP as secondary IP and not the IP of parent domain?

yes. you can do that in VMware workstation as well. From VMware VM settings select two Network Adapter. Enable LAN routing or IP Forwarding in VM.

Install Certificate Authority in Parent Domain. You can use that CA in child or tree domain without any issue.

Your using private / local ip addresses not public/external ip address to do this. This makes it confusing for people who are on remote sites. You use a virtual machine not 2 seperate remote networks. How to make this happen in REAL remote locations? What if my ip address for both machine were public not private (192.168.50? and 10.10.0) These are private and ofcourse you may connect visa vera remote location etc?
@paulbell56
@paulbell56 5 жыл бұрын
No, you would be using private IP's still. The VPN or other WAN connection would handle the public addresses and connections between the sites, most likely as a site-to-site VPN connection between routers/firewalls at each location. The routers/firewalls would have the public IP's and would be configured to tunnel traffic for the private subnets between each other. Your Windows domain controllers will be on private subnets at each site and will be available on the network for your other servers and workstations.

Thank you so much Bro... I need help on Users replication Parent & Child domain. below is the scenario I have created 2 domains parent & child domain for example below. both domain have single DNS server. 1)Parent domain(local.com) 2)Child domain (USA.local.com) & have created 2 users for each domain for example below parent domain users test1@local.com test2@local.com child domain users user1@usa.local.com user2@usa.local.com also have done Active directory sites & server replication successfully. & have created 1 client machine(win-7) & joined to parent domain now able to login parent domain users. now my question is i am unable to login child domain user in same client machine for that what configuration i have to do.
@MSFTWebCast
@MSFTWebCast 5 жыл бұрын
No extra configuration required. Make sure you are using users UPN name to sign in to windows 7 computer. Example: user1@usa.local.com.

@@MSFTWebCast Thanks for your quick respond & guideline. If I’m not wrong, In active directory users & computers console the users should be available in the parent & child domain.. vice versa
@MSFTWebCast
@MSFTWebCast 5 жыл бұрын
By default you cant see all users from both parent domain and child domain. If you want you can add child/parent domain in your active directory users and computers console. As dsa.msc is going to connect one domain controller at a time (by default)

@@MSFTWebCast Thank you for your’ s Update, As I am looking entire forest users have able to login client machine either it has joined domain parent or child. don’t want to change any specific domain (like parent / child). similarly, additional domain configures. (watched your’ s video). Is there any group policy to apply?
@MSFTWebCast
@MSFTWebCast 5 жыл бұрын
There is a no such policy that force users to do that. But you can educate(tell or explain) users to use UPN style login name (For example user1@parentdomain.local or user1@childdomain.local). Users can successfully login to any domain joined client machine, No matter user is from parent domain or child domain.
