Fine Art TV Series - Colour In Your Life
Season - 10
Episode - 09
Filmed on Location at - Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Judy started her career as a hairdresser and was always inspired by colour and shape. It seemed only natural for Judy to follow that path into her artistic endeavour. Judy’s first passion was watercolour, which was greatly influenced as she grew up on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria and was surrounded by the beauty of that coastal region. You can see many of her paintings have a nautical theme. Watercolour as a medium was very successful for Judy, most of which have been sold through galleries, exhibitions and art shows. After approximately 10 years Judy turned her focus to large scale acrylics. Judy felt restricted by the size of a sheet of watercolour paper.
Asked to teach contemporary acrylics and resin art at Blanc Canvas Studios in Hampton in 2010, Judy has been teaching there ever since. She loves to experiment with every medium she can get her hands on. Judy is very enthusiastic and open to learning any and all techniques, which may push the boundaries of contemporary art. Passionate about encouraging anyone, whether they be an artist or not, Judy says to ‘have a go, it is only colour on a board, it can’t hurt you and will only make you feel better about yourself.‘
Judy loves resin as you have the freedom of movement and the vibrancy of colour that can be combined to create a beautiful art piece which is only restricted by your imagination. In February of last year Judy was given the opportunity to buy Hampton Art Supplies, which is a small art shop, where she has been working for the past 4 years. In the shop which is staffed by like minded artists the team there encourage the customers to try first hand how each product can be used. Judy encourages their artists to extend themselves and not to be afraid to try something new. Judy has a passion for art in all its forms. Judy believes art is as something that can take you on a wonderful journey.
You can contact the artist about their art tips or art techniques directly via their website www.blanccanvas.com.au/adult-a...

I have fallen in love with this process. I've worked in encaustics for 5 years and I'm all self taught so I'm always looking for videos. I did two sea scrapes and love them both. I'm putting my own twist on it though and everyone loves them. Thanks so much for the videos. My husband has made my wood cradles for all my encaustic work so now I can do both. Judy is amazing.

What a super show! Thank you Graeme and Judy! I had a neighbor when I was younger that used resin in his workshop and the entire street could smell it! I'm so glad to know there is odorless resin out there! I am intrigued with the seascapes and really hope to try this technique one day! What an inspiration this show is! I'm a fan for life! Graeme, for the next hands on demonstration, they're going to need to get you bigger gloves! I got a chuckle out of you trying to put them on! Now you know how us girls feel about pantyhose ;)! Great program, as always, and I agree with Julian that no matter the style, I always learn something. I wonder if Judy could tell us more about the wooden support she gets made. Is it ply or a panel with an edging underneath? If it was solid timber that would make it too heavy. I like the idea of dying the resin, rather than pouring clear resin over an existing acrylic painting.

Graeme Stevenson (Colour in Your Life) Thanks for your reply Graeme. I found out they're called cradled wood panels. Basically some ply with a frame built on the other side around the edges, and perhaps some supports for larger ones. Never seen those before.

Love this episode and the show in general. I have a question - what is the substrate used for the large resin paintings?

Hi Elaine you can contact Judy directly via her website and I'm sure she can give you all the info you need to know on her resin paintings. www.blanccanvas.com.au/adult-art-lessons/judy-waters/ cheers Jenny
