We are so excited to share this with you guys!!
We're letting you in on our creative process and what happens when we don't like something after the fact.
Products used:
Paint - Dixie Belle Sand Bar
Wax - Dixie Belle Grunge Wax
Stencil- It is now discontinued, but I work a lot with Cutting Edge Stencils, so I recommend them a lot. They are not a thick, so the height of the 3D effect will be slightly thinner but you will still get it and they have a lot of high quality options.

Next time, draw a center line on the transfer before you cut it. That way, each piece is pre-marked and will line up perfectly.

Fun and informative tutortial. Thank you and have a great 4th oldtimer trick, when using hot mud put a bit of water in the pan first, makes in easier and faster to mix, the hotter the water makers it cure faster, but I have not seen an iron used, nice touch

FYI...It's easier to mark the center line of the decal before you cut it up. Also, the math is less complicated if you work in smaller units like centimeters or millimeters rather than fractions of an inch.

Do you happen to know anything about using the joint compound that's already mixed together in the little tub?? I'm abt to do my 1st ever raised stencil with the already made compound...do you just cake it on for it to be raised? Lol That's the part that I'm not getting🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😂😂😔😔🥺🥺🥺
@CatalinasDesigns
@CatalinasDesigns 2 жыл бұрын
It should work the same. Your drying times may vary depending on how liquid-like or paste-like it is from the tub. And yes you just came it on. It’ll only be as raised as the thickness of your stencil. Some stencils are thicker than other but you want to scrape the excess so you have a clean design. Just cake it on and smooth it so that it’s flat with the stencil. Even if you have a thin stencil, you’ll have a raised pattern

I live in Northern Ireland. Can I you explain what joint compound, or sheetrock mud is? Would it be stuff we use to cover holes in walls or rough plaster before painting? Thank you.
@CatalinasDesigns
@CatalinasDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
I would think it’s the stuff you use to cover the wholes. Over here, sheetrock (gypsum boards) get covered with this mud to smooth them out and sometimes add texture. Plaster is more expensive here, so I would say the stuff to patch holes.
@loriscook5231
@loriscook5231 3 жыл бұрын
It’s the plaster made to be used in the joints of sheets of plaster board wall lining. When used on walls you plaster 2-3 thin layers. The last layer is finishing compound a finer, smoother plaster. Finishing compound might be the best to use

So the stencil I used was from Prima Stencils and it has been discontinued. I have another video where I did a faux concrete look and that stencil has also been discontinued. So now I just stick to my go-to stencil source, which is Cutting edge stencils. www.idevaffiliate.com/33076/296.html I do have an affiliate link since I’ve worked with their products a bit. If you see my Faux Concrete video or my Boho dresser Anthropologie inspired you can see me using them. They are not as thick, but they still work great!

If the joint compound is water soluble, does that mean the design can wash off?
@CatalinasDesigns
@CatalinasDesigns 2 жыл бұрын
No. While it is wet you can wipe/wash it off. Once it dries it hardens and it would have to be scraped or sanded off. For reference, If you’re in the USA, joint compound (AKA sheet rock mud) is the stuff they use to texture walls.

Maybe she should offer preschool sessions? Two is a number, “to”expresses direction and the one I believe you are still looking for is “too”. P.s. I’m not giving you the definition this time. Be nice to nice people, especially when these people are sharing their creative talent for the world to see and they don’t mind explaining their processes. Your comment shows you are ungrateful and are part of what is wrong with society. If you don’t have anything nice to say or type, or something suggestive to the process for our community of learners on this channel, then don’t say or type anything. In my preschool class, my students are 4 years old and I understand completely that they need guidance on this, but a grown person? THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK!
