How to create sources for your paintings using procreate!

In this video, I am going to show you how I use procreate to create sources for my fine art paintings. In the procreate app, you can splice together images and play around with the effects to create a unique source. This reference image can help you create a beautiful, original painting!

This was so helpful! I am in week 10 at Milan . I downloaded pixelmator and was so frustrated! I am not technically inclined . I couldn’t find any tutorials to help me figure out how to use it. You can use a projector to project your reference photo onto the canvas! I hope that helps. 😊

Hi Carly. So helpful, thank you. Now that I’ve made my reference in Procreate I can’t seem to print it out. I’ve tried all the file types but when it exports to the printer it says unsuccessful every time. Can you share the steps for how to print directly from Procreate? Thanks for the great content.

Hi Diane! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! For printing out a source from Procreate, I think you would have to first save it as a JPG or PDF, and then print it from that saved filed. I hope that helps! ❤

Is procreate available on iPhone. I found pocket procreate - is it same?

It is available on Iphone as well, but I don't think it has as many features. Plus, I find its harder to create sources on such a small screen, but it probably can work out okay!

I use a projector to get it on the canvas! Generally just tracing the outline with pencil first and then painting on top of that.
