When meshing 3D components, a structured hexmesh is the most sought after method. The Solid Map tool in Hypermesh can be used to generate a perfect hexmesh on any geometry.
In this video, I will share a simple step-by-step process to use the Solid Map tool in Hypermesh to generate an error-free mesh on any geometry .
This may seem a bit time consuming and difficult but in the end, the accuracy of results obtained with this mesh will be unparalleled.
To get a better understanding of the process, I would suggest downloading the CAD model and following this tutorial.
As a prerequisite, watch these videos for ease of understanding -

@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Abhishek, The best way to capture fillets or circular holes is by creating a washer split along the edge before creating the 2D surface mesh. Another way to capture curvature accurately is to increase the node density on that edge. I will definitely look forward to making more videos on advanced geometry editing and meshing. Thanks for the suggestion!

What are T-Connections and free edges ? Is it a problem for the job ? if yes, how can i avoid it ? thanks
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 3 жыл бұрын
I would not consider T-connections a problem in general. Depends on the problem under consideration. Sometimes, in case of complex geometry, T-connections just cannot be avoided. On the other hand, free edges almost certainly cause mesh connectivity issues. You can fix free edges using toggle tool from Quick Edit panel (F11) or by creating filler surfaces.

Bro can we remove fillets and chamfer or should we keep it. Just do a video on that please
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 3 жыл бұрын
Fillets and chamfers should be removed for every analysis unless the results are getting significantly affected by stress concentration along geometry edges. In that case, you can use the geometry with fillets and chamfers.

Bro how to decide whether to use tetra mesh or Hex mesh for 3D meshing?
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the component under consideration. If the geometry is complex, hexapenta mesh might not be a feasible option. A good hexapenta mesh as well as a good tetramesh yield similar results!

The yellow lines are just a representation of non-manifold edges. They can't be deleted. Don't worry about these lines, they won't affect the analysis!

Dear swapnil, thanks for nice explanation . I need to hex mesh femur bone in hypermesh. Possible ??Please help. I tried solid map..But got error.
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 3 жыл бұрын
It is certainly possible but the automatic mapping options won't work on such complex geometries. You have to manually break down the part its smaller mappable regions and mesh them separately. On second thoughts, a bone has lot of curves and smooth edges. It is easier to create a tetramesh and also saves a lot of time in the preprocessing stage!

I appreciate your work. I have a question regarding hex meshing a tricky geometry. Imagine there is a solid half-pipe/half-cylinder( e=====e) with it's L>>d. A solid frustum of a cone is placed on this half-pipe such that the center of the larger diameter of this frustum coincides with the center of the rectangular surface of the half-pipe. The larger diameter of the frustum is smaller than the diameter of half pipe. The axes of the half-pipe and frustum of the cone are perpendicular to each other. Is there any solution for the hex meshing such a geometry in Hypermesh?
@MixtapePromoTV

when should i use *find faces* ?
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Find faces is used to extract one side of a 3D hexa element to treat it as a separate 2D quad element. This helps to mesh the locations adjacent to that hexa element. Hence we use this tool during the hexmeshing process.

Otherwise, you have much better tools for hexamesh like Abaqus/CAE to do this job in 5', more than that, geometry can be edited, the mesh will be regenerated ... Hypermesh users are far from being efficient ...
@turbofokozat
@turbofokozat 3 жыл бұрын
I disagree. I t's just an example which was presented. Hypermesh is really useful, if you have an stl file to remesh. Since HM can create even complex surfaces (geometric entity) from an imported surface mesh, Abaqus cant. In HM you can import an stl file, create a geometry and perform surface meshing with optimization then create the solid map. Dont get me wrong in simple cases like this the HM tools may seem unecessary, but in more complex cases it is really handy. Don't forget that this is a tutorial video. Also Abaqus is a high end solver software, I prefer to use it for solving, but in both pre and postprocessing there are much more advanced softwares to use.
@bizibiz
@bizibiz 3 жыл бұрын
@@turbofokozat Hypermesh is overkilled for 90% applications. Ans we are talking about hexmesh, not stl, geometry reconstruction and so on. For hexmesh it is way more complicated than others. Guys using HM are not able to have a look to other solutions because it is si messy that you have to dive into it if you want to use it. When you go with HM, you lost your time with meshing instead of analysis.
