I am so glad I found this channel! I needed inspiration for a giant canvas art project I aspire to tackle. I am a medical nerd and not an artist. Therefore, I hope someone will be able to guide me in the right direction. I have a 54" by 72" used canvas that I want to use for my project. I know that I need to repaint it solid white with acrylic paint before starting. However, I keep reading different opinions when it comes to creating art with joint compound or spackle on such a large canvas. Some artists say that using joint compound or spackle on such a large surface will not work. It will eventually crack and fall off. Therefore, using a large board is the better choice. Other artists state that using a board is a bad idea. I only need to mix joint compound or spackle with gel or acrylic paint make it possible for me to create textured art on such a large canvas. The only thing I know for sure is that the spackle or joint compound cannot be too thick, because it will definitely crack. These differing opinions are confusing! If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate the assistance. 😁
