How-To. Creating a BMW Digital Key Plus for iPhone

Learn in this video about the creation process of the BMW Digital Key Plus for iPhone in BMW Operating System 8.
With the optional features Comfort Access and the BMW Digital Key Plus you can add a vehicle key to your compatible iPhone or Apple Watch to lock, unlock and start your BMW. This even works without taking out your iPhone using the Ultra Wideband Technology.
To create the main key for your BMW a BMW ID with a linked vehicle is required. Complete the setup before pressing the start/stop button while in standby-state. Make it double: You need to have both physical keys with you inside the vehicle. Ensure you are logged into your My BMW App. Choose the vehicle tab, select “BMW Digital Key Plus” and tap ""Setup Digital Key"". Confirm and “Continue”.
Tap ""Start Pairing"" and follow the instructions. “Continue” once more - the activation process will start automatically as you can see on the Central Information Display.
You will get a notification when the Digital Key has been activated successfully. Once paired, your BMW Digital Key will be added to your Apple Wallet.
So you can share your digital key or add it to your Apple Watch. Another way to create the Digital Key is by following the link in the set up E-Mail. It will be sent to you after connecting your BMW to the My BMW App.
Simply tap the link to begin the setup of the main key. Follow the steps on your iPhone and on the Central Information Display to activate the Digital key.

i frankly want this on every car. it'd also be nice if in future iterations it would have more controls. like climate controls accessible from the wallet app being that this is an electric car so it wouldn't have to start the engine, or window controls in the wallet app, in case you leave your car out in the rain and forgot to roll one up.

if only one key would be required, i could steal one from you and be able to set it up. if both keys are required, it's much more guaranteed that the digital key is required by the actual owner of the car

UWB (ultra wide band) is used for precise location information within a relatively small area. The iPhones with UWB (iPhone 11 and newer) will detect the proximity of a (compatible) BMW vehicle and when you are close enough (usually within 1-2 meters) it will unlock it remotely.

@MrRedskin0007. It can't. The procedure is done via Bluetooth LE. But UWB is used to ensure that the device is actually close by and is a defense against relay attacks.

works for 4hrs after the iPhone runs out of battery. if iPhone is stolen well just get the main key ?

It would be best to charge your phone while in the car. It’s not designed to take over for your regular key. I also have a credit card key that I keep in my wallet, which is another backup key. I love that I can let people in and drive or move the car if needed. If your phone is stolen, you have used Find My iPhone should wipe the data Suppose somebody has stolen your iPhone and stolen your car. Strongly recommend the police? As a result, they would have to break into both your iPhone, something that’s not as easy as you think, and break into your car; therefore, you would want to call your insurance company and make sure that you call the police as well because I’ve heard that thieves can even steal the real key I don’t know though if that’s the possible😢
