Inventory is man really is nothing and unable to do any good. There's really nothing to go back to relive that sweetness and intimacy we had with Jesus. But this, we move forward in dependence on the Lord Jesus Christ. Past is past. Today is what matters. By grace we pray and totally depend on the Lord Jesus whom alone God the Father is well pleased.

Scripture does teach that there is a place for inventory on the past... consider somewhere like Hebrew 10 where he appeals to them to recall the former days, and how they "joyfully accepted the plundering of your property" in order to appeal to them to not presently through away their confidence. Other times the writers of Scripture may say, as Paul in Philippians 3, "forgetting what lies behind", and he pressed on forgetting the past success, but living as a newborn believer. My point is this: The Bible (which is our authority) teaches a place for both forgetting the past and for recalling the past. We just have to figure out which text applies to us where we are presently at.

Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place-unless you repent. (Revelation 2:4-5) Jesus tells the Church at Ephesus here to remember from where they have fallen. And to do the first works. This means they have to look behind to see where they stopped prioritizing Jesus, and what they used to do in their prioritization of Him

Is this not something one feels. Titus 3:5-7 KJVS [5] Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; [6] Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; [7] That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. I have suffered with a spinal cord injury for 38 years. There are times when I feel very distant from God due to the pain suffering and weakness in my life. This goes on for a while, and then the Holy Spirit will wash over me with the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Ghost. Which wipes the slate clean of my soul removes a lot of the negative aspects this difficult life imprints on me.
