Bullet Points: 1. Get up at the same time. EVERY SINGLE DAY. Even weekends. Even if you only got 20 minutes sleep. GET UP. 2. ONLY GO TO BED WHEN YOU CANNOT KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN. If when in bed you cannot sleep. GET UP. 3. GET UP EVERYTHING SINGLE DAY AT THE SAME TIME. I know I'm repeating this but this creates a SLEEP DRIVE THAT YOU NEED.

Hi , I hope you don’t mind me asking ( I can barely see your profile pic on my phone as it’s so tiny so I do hope I don’t cause any offence ) but are you in your 30’s? I only ask as I’ve noticed as I’ve hit my mid- late 30’s I get 4hrsa night . 5 Max if it’s a weekend and I’ve no alarm to be up for I can’t fall asleep early and I have to wake up early for work but around mid afternoon- early evening every day I feel SO DRAINED! Then I get my second wind from about 8-9pm Do you Struggle from the afternoon onwards on your 4hrs sleep or are you doing ok on it? Sorry to ask all this, It’s just I’ve been dying to ask someone with a similar sleep issue to me. Everyone around me goes to bed early and gets a full 8-10 hrs aaaagh!! Lol 😆

@@LxUxNxA I’m not the person you asked but I’m 31 and I’ve had this exact issue for the past almost 2 years. It’s now to the point where I cannot fall asleep before 3/4am. I can get in bed at 9pm, lights off/no phone/all the “tips” I’ve read to help fall asleep… start trying to sleep immediately and I will still lie awake until 4. Wake up at 7/8 and I’ll be fine all morning (coffee is my life source), then after lunch from 2/3pm until about 8/9pm, I’m literally nodding off - can’t keep my eyes open, can’t keep a thought together, and if I laid down right then I know I’d be asleep within minutes (this is wild for me, my entire life I have never been able to sleep while it’s light out - even with total blackout curtains. I’ll get to nap every once in a while on a weekend day now, and im convinced that’s the only thing keeping me going because I am not getting enough sleep on a regular basis to sustain human life 😂). I don’t have a solution or anything; just wanted to let you know you’re not alone, im dealing with this mysterious and horrible phenomenon as well 😩

I know this will resonate with so many people. I had a bad bout of anxiety where I would wake up from a deep sleep, feeling like my heart was going to explode. I was afraid to fall asleep and stared a cycle of terrible insomnia. I definitely understand how the mind won’t let you go to sleep. It is absolutely a fight or flight feeling. Sheer panic. Thank you so much for this. I am 53 and I’ve suffered from insomnia most of my life. My brain just will not shut down at night, and the spiral of anxiety about not being able to sleep is very real. Even when I do sleep, I wake up so often during the night I feel as if I am awake more than I am asleep. I usually manage to get into a deep sleep by 4:00-5:00 a.m., and then I have to get up at 6:00! This often results in my hitting the snooze button 10 times and being late leaving the house. I have tried just about everything and have almost given up hope, but I’m going to listen to Joseph’s book and do whatever he advises. I just purchased the audio book. THANK YOU for posting this video.

Right there with you Pam. The last time I slept good was with medication probably 20 years ago. I deal with the insomnia now because I don't want to take the pills. I'm more okay with the insomnia. The comment about the vallium, Lunesta, and Seroquel kind of upset me a little bit. I'm sure it was just meant to be a joke but that is actually how a lot of people go to sleep these days. Not healthy and not really that funny. Not to mention for those of us who have sleepwalking issues pills are not always a very good option. My last sleepwalking episode was many many years ago but for some reason if I take a sleeping pill of any kind I'm almost guaranteed to have an episode. If I didn't have THC it would be a real struggle. But I definitely don't want the pills. This is a serious issue for a lot of people and it lingers into every other aspect of your life when you never get a good night's sleep!

Insomnia is horrible. My issue wasn't falling asleep, it was staying asleep. One time I wrote down for my old Dr everytime I woke up throughout the night. The longest period was 43 minutes of sleep before I woke up. She put me on seroquel. So here I am half awake eating straight out of the fridge and gaining 50 lbs. Now, I also have severe anxiety disorder (as did my mother, and as does my son and 2 of my daughters). Another Dr put me on Amitriptyline. But the dose was extremely high but it did work. Now, I am with a wonderful Dr. I am prescribed a very low dose Ativan for my anxiety disorder and I find myself rarely taking them. For sleep, she has me on 3 mg extended release xanax to take at 8 pm and 12.5 mg extended release Ambien when I go to bed. By the time I remember to take my Xanax, I am already in bed and my Ambien is by my bedside because I didn't need it. My sleep schedule has always been a mess. My husband has stage IV pancreatic cancer so that's enough in itself to have anxiety and not be able to sleep. Now, when I wake up at 4 am, I will stay up. I have been gardening this summer for the first time in years and it is exhausting. There are nights I pass out with nothing. I try to keep busy. Monday - Fri is non stop with constant paperwork for my husband. Sat and Sun we will try to do something together if he is feeling well. No matter how we do it, we have to sleep because sleep deprivation is not a pretty thing. I do what my body tells me to do. Getting up at 4 am is fine for me because it gives me "me" time for an hour of so. Then, I will do my skincare. Everyone is different. Pills scare me also. I was addicted to opiates for 15+ years. Pain I can live with, sleep I cannot.

@@autumnmathes5364 I once knew a gal who subscribed to a diet plan where they shipped her food weekly, one of those subscription diet plans. Sleep eating is frightenting.

I'm excited to work on my trauma surrounding sleep with my therapist and to really do my best not to be afraid of sleeping or the pain I feel when I wake up. Thank you for this video, I've noticed it's a lot of tips that we've heard before, but this video sets apart the trash from treasures in times of advice and helped me to realise how some sleep advice are quite contradictory. Telling you too sleep for certain hours and then saying you should wake up at the same time but you're not supposed to go to bed until you're "tired"... But you can't regulate when you're "tired" in a way (especially people with sleep issues) so how can you wake up at the same time and get 8 hours of sleep if you can't be in bed until you're sleepy? LOVE this.

The intense black-and-white sleep hygiene regimen w copious documentation required (with no corresponding education abt sleep!) made me feel incompetent and put 24/7 focus on sleep! I really don't worry about it at all now, but that's bc I know meds will help me sleep. Not a great solution so I'm looking forward to the book! Thanks Wayne!

I've been a "chronic insomniac" for around 30yrs and have spent the last year reducing my night meds on my own to try and have a more natural sleep pattern. This made complete sense to me Wayne so thank you so much for covering it. Much gratitude from Glasgow, Scotland 🙏🏻❣️

Thank you Wayne ! Fantastic vidio . I also spent years on amitriptyline and just stopped. No more sleep for me and waking to smashing glass sounds . As the medication is a seditive it’s like coming off antidepressants without a ween off . I’m so greatfull for this vidio and hope your problems settle ❤️

As a person who hasn't slept more than a couple hours since I was 15 years old I'm looking forward to this...... my doctor has me on 300mg of Amitriptyline every night and I basically sleep walk when I do sleep or just don't sleep at all despite the medicine. Nothing seems to change the fact that I cannot sleep.

I always thought I had insomnia. I was going from doctor to doctor for thyroid issues and it took year before I got treatment. Once my meds were adjusted the insomnia was gone. I sleep like I’m dead now. Sometimes there is something wrong with your body that messes up your sleep. Thyroid issues for example are extremely common in women.

Thank you for this, I’m literally struggling with this and it is very frustrating. I used to wake up at 5am & loved it. But I feel like I can’t anymore bc I don’t get enough sleep bc my body wakes up on its own around 2:30- 3am and cannot fall back to sleep until 4, so it’s throws my sleep pattern off. So now I wake up at 6ish and it does not align with my goals. I workout, but even that doesn’t help. I hope this works. I think my hormones are the problem bc it started last year when I removed my birth control that I had for 8 years. Idk.

SO much research on insomnia. And I get it ..... lots of people are plagued by it. However, I suffer from a debilitating sleep disorder, where not much research is being done at all. I have narcolepsy. And not the kind depicted by Mr. Bean!! Besides the constant drowsiness, I suffer from emotional/traumatic/vivid dreams every single night. I don't forget them They continue to play on in my head during the day. When I sleep, it's like living a second life in another dimension. I wake up extremely groggy, some times crying, sometimes angry but always sad. It's exhausting because I feel unrested after a night of so much brain activity. I've had 3 sleep studies. I've seen a sleep therapist, a psychologist, and several neurologists. Nobody has any answers or useful suggestions. I've inquired with many sleep research clinics, but nobody seems interested in doing research on this. I know I'm not alone. Most narcoleptics have these same issues. I DREAM of a day where people like me will have resources available to help us. It's an awful thing to suffer from! Just wanted to share the other side of the coin .......

Thanks so much for sharing ure story Wayne. I also got the jerks, esp after nytol. When it started I had the jolts and heartburn wen I woke up. Also night sweats. And so the spiral to insomnia began. No more night sweats but noticed that if I got in to a fight a night, I'm not gonna sleep well. That made me start to think cortisol is up. So now I focus on stress relief the most and do deep breathing exercises wen I wake.

You talked about Hypnic Jerks. I used to get these a lot, from childhood. Later, as an adult I was advised to take Magnesium for migraines; well it didn't help the migraine much but the hypnic jerks stopped. When we were going through a tight period I stopped taking my supplements. The Hypnic Jerks came back, so no matter how little spare money we have Magnesium is a priority. My problem is waking up about 3:00 am. have had this for 20 years.

Hi Wayne I have just watched your video with joe as I was advised to watch when I called the sleep charity helpline .. it’s brilliant . I have insomnia and have had it since august.. it’s not as bad as it was nights with no sleep whatsoever and terrible anxiety doing everything wrong. I was so desperate I pleaded with my gp to put me on sleeping tablets then due to them being addictive I changed to amitriptyline which I am still taking 20mg however it doesn’t work completely.. I go through cycles and because I’m menopausal ,my hormones play a big part into my failing to get off to sleep. I am definitely going to visit joes channel as well. But when you talked about amitriptyline it made me think how I could do with coming off it now as it puts me into a false sedated sleep and then I know I have too much sleep one night then can’t sleep the next etc etc but with the fight or flight and palpitations stopping me from sleeping even when I feel sleepy to go to bed I’m one big mess. Can you please advise me how I should come off the drugs ? I’m a mess!

Have had the brain interference wake up jolts (refuse to call it that other gorgeous name) for many many years. Mine started with exactly that same tiny seed of thought -what would happen if I couldn't help making this happen... Been trying to fix it ever since which of course keeps fuelling it. Letting go and trusting is everything and feels so daunting at first... I personally think trauma & shame ideas thrust on us in childhood can originally trigger all this....and the cure again is self love, self belief, allowing and acceptance.

@@lunakat7020 If you're waking in a hot, sweaty panic it may be due to Sleep Apnea! 😴 Your Brain is waking you up so you don't DIE! This happened to me & after doing a more sensitive Sleep Study it was discovered that I stopped breathing 30+ times an hour (more than every 2 minutes)! I immediately purchased a Snore Guard (avail online & at Drugsstores) which keeps your airway open. Try not to sleep on your back, your throat closes. While waiting 1st for an Oxygen machine & then finally insurance approved my Cpap machine. (nice & Quiet) What a HUGE DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE! SLEEP IS SO IMPORTANT! I get the BEST SLEEP if I do mild physical activity during the day. Even a gentle walk in Nature or just a few blocks in your neighborhood will tire your body out & relax your mind as well... Let your thoughts come & go like clouds in a gentle breeze... 🚶‍♀️ Sleep Well, Sweet Dreams All! 😴
