Swing weight can only go up when weight is added, no matter where it's added. That's why it's called weight. The fact that the racquet with extra weight had even lower SW than the stock one, only tells something about the QC. When weight is added in the handle the sw increases but a lot less compared to when the extra weight is located higher up. A standard overgrip increases the sw with 1-2 points max, where as if you put the same 4-5 grams in the hoop at 12 O'clock, you'll get a lot more extra sw points. Harry you should have checked the specs with your machine before you did anything to the racquet as some brands are more even (in)famous for their QC than others. :)
@marcvandeput4024

How can the SW be lower than before ? Is this because the pivot point of the SWmachine is somewhere in the middle of the grip?
@abokickel
@abokickel 3 жыл бұрын
@@tenniselbow74 Yes, by adding weight below the balance point you can alter the balance and make the racquet more handle heavy and easier to manouver BUT that won't decrease the swing weight. And this was the question here. The sw of the racquet he modified didn't go down due to the weight he added to the handle.

That Wilson has a listed Flex rating of 69. The H22 standard lay up is, I believe, a lot lower than that. Also, don’t most pro stock go for silicone in the handle, even far up, to improve feel as well as add weight? And you needed to weigh both before you started. SW going down with nearly 20g of weight added up to the top of the handle would have increased SW.

Hey there. Another great idea for the video but i was expecting more tbh. First of all Ive actually tried to do the similar thing when i got og blade v6. I was lucky enough to get my hands on both h22 and h19 and try those. And yes, those are good. Really good. So the transformation from ogblade to h22 failed miserably. My guess would be that is cos of stiffness raitings of these two sticks. It just didnt feel as good as h22. But! What u CAN actually do if u wanna get close to prostock is to transform ultra into h19 which imo even better racket. Ultra tour is still very underestimated racket imo! So that experiment was fairly succesfull for me. Later on i managed to buy two h19s and DAMN those are cured my racketholism. Now when i watch those new blades, ps, vs, shms im like whatever, try my racket :D But keep it up! Still loving ur content

Woah woah hold up. This makes no sense at all. First of all, shouldn't you take the specs of the racquet before you start to customize to see what you are initially working with? And then take the specs of the customized racquet after and see the differences? You can't compare a customized one with another racquet off the shelves because you dont know what the differences of the racquets were before it was customized and even though they are technically the same model, there are a lot of differences in the racquets because of the way the resin flows in the molds.
@jiitee3215
@jiitee3215 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, he should have at least checked the weight, balance and swing weight of the racquet he was about to modify BEFORE he did anything to it. The non-modified had a sw of 292 while the one that got a lot of extra grams only had 282. How can the swing weight go down when more weight is added, let it be in the handle below the balance point? Well we know the answer, it can't, which means that the sw of the modded one had to be even lower before the added weight. Way to go quality control.

I watch this channel because overall, the good stuff info outweighs the bad; and Harry comes across as a most affable, down-to-earth guy. He’s also very good at giving retail advice and stringing, which is his main job. However, I only watch his customisation videos for comedy value and as an example of how not to do it. His method is really just a shoot from the hip, lay on the lead wherever there’s a flat area somewhere you want weight approach. I certainly wouldn’t call it customisation in any way, shape or form. No one customises without taking specs before laying on the weight; nor without some idea of what target specs are intended. Also, one of the main reasons for customisation is to obtain a set of matched rackets in weight/BP/SW so that the player need not make small changes in technique when switching between racquets. It’s not even difficult to do these days given the availability of online calculators that allow one to pre-determine where and how much weight is needed on a particular racquet to attain an intended weight/BP/SW. How would he make me a matched pair with the way he’s shown in this video? 🤢 Also, contradicts himself stating the handle is hollow and that’s why people love it for extra feel. Then says to put in the silicone there; which will instantly deaden the “extra feel”? If I wanted to preserve the vibration of a hollow handle whilst adding weight, I’d be looking to use something like tungsten pieces retained at the very end of the handle with wadding to keep the longest hollow section possible. 🤦‍♂️ Pro stocks in general do not have hollow handles anyway. They’re almost always silicone filled or solid moulding.
@chuckfriebe843
@chuckfriebe843 3 жыл бұрын
Jerome Morrow agreed with everything until you got to the part about the silicone. Pro players use silicone because of its shock qualities and the feel it gives the racquet. It may feel different than a hollow hairpin, but still provides the feel that most players like. Not all, but most. However, it comes down to personal choice, right? Everything you said was super spot on. It’s a pretty methodical process, matching racquets and his method was definitely not methodical. Anyway, cheers! Thanks for the good comment.

That bottom cap comes off if you remove the clip that secures it - while playing
@abokickel
@abokickel 3 жыл бұрын
There are several clips, usually four. Some rackets, like this one, have, for some reason, an extra clip that is not "indented" in the same way and sticks out more. It's that one he removed. It's not needed as long as you have the other 3-4 clips in place.
@JO-hb3xi
@JO-hb3xi 3 жыл бұрын
@@abokickel the staple he removed is the one that secured the end of the grip. It always protrudes more than the four staples that help hold the butt cap on so it's easy to remove. Remove the grip staple when replacing grips.

.nblades are awesome, add 4 g lead @9 & 3 and 2g @12, add 10 g to handle either lead/silicon or overgrip, go to Pro shop to check H/L balance, then add or subtract weight to get to factory H/L balance spec. Modify to suit your preference always keeping H/L balance at spec or slightly more H/L as you add static weight.
