Why wash a watermelon when your going to discard the rind?

Cuz when you knife touches the outside rind and slices into the watermelon your taking the chance of putting little particle of dust,dirt particle into your delicious fruit so it always best to clean all fruits so you can have a clean and healthier slice

This is the way I do it also, but why do you wash it beforehand? It seems like a waste of time as you're removing the rind anyway.

I was it to take of any dirt that touches my knife so when I cut the fruits it does not get on it, their little micro dirt particles on the outside shell of the Watermelon when you buy it or any fruit. So make sure you rinse your fruits off before you cut them with a knife or eat them.

Also a lot of outbreaks of listeriosis have been directly traced back to watermelon.
