Yes, you could use a higher count blade for this from 80-100 tooth, but your normal blade will work too as demonstrated.

If you’re going to be cutting Schluter trim my recommendation is putting a Diablo Aluminum Blade on your miter saw. It only takes a minute or teo to change blades out and it’s worth it, with the quality of the cut. The issue with cutting this type of material is with the holes or perforations. Anyone cutting has experienced a mangled piece of aluminum flying up at them. If you haven’t experienced it yet...you will! My recommendation is this...wrap the end you are going to cut tightly with blue painters tape, following the contour of the material as you wrap it. Wrap it so it overlaps two or three times. Take the blade through the profile at an even pace, not too fast and not too slow. The blue tape will keep the blade from grabbing an edge of the aluminum and mangling it. I’ve never had an issue since I started doing this. Wear both gloves and eye protection!

Do you cut through the center of the tape or on the edge of the tape?

The way he was holding it too. If the blade caught the aluminum it would have ripped his hand straight into the blade. 9:17

I highly suggest you try an aluminum cutting blade, which is different from most other metal rated blades meant more for steel or similar harder metals. But I gotta say, I really like your inspections of faulty showers to show homeowners what to look out for in a fly by night installer. That shows honesty and a good understanding of the trade, and I respect that wholeheartedly. Keep rockin' brother!

Another thing that helps, if your 1/8th off or so you can use an electric sander and it cleans up the edge while you sneak up on it. Its also much safer. You can also use a clamp on the trim when using the miter saw

nice video! I use a Diablo blade 10' x 84 teeth laminate/Non ferrous metal cutting blade, always a real clean cut no need sand it down. Also try to set the 1x2 first against the fence then the edge metal u will not get those burts or kick back on the metal.

Before watching so I’m not sure the methods you use but I always use my wetsaw and it’s perfect every time. Just go slow so the blade doesn’t grab the Schiller. Just watched the video and the wetsaw is more convenient if your are using one on the job. No need to take out a miter saw. It does harm the diamond blade at all. Been doing it for twenty years and my blades always last plenty long and according to the materials I’m cutting.

Aluminum cuts like butter with an old miter saw blade. Saw a kid switch out his blade with a cut off wheel. I asked him if he ever used a carbide tip blade. He said no. Told hin to switch it back and try it. He found me later to thank me.

Ken FromtheFuture try cutting 400 lineal ft of schluter dilex ahk in one day and the customer was to cheap to buy 25 inside/outside corners for the job so you have to miter them all and the have to look good. Good luck using a wet saw for that. Also a hack saw and miter box will work for small jobs.

I have a length of U-channel that fits nicely over the edge of plexiglass. I want to cut a 45 (actually 90 degrees, 45 from each side) into it to bend it round the corners of a square piece of plexi to make a frame. How can i measure accurately to get that cut right where it's supposed to be so that the aluminum wraps around each corner with the valley of the u channel touching the plexi on each side. I may not be explaining this 100% right. I am new to fabrication.

I’m confused. I’m doing tiles on a bathroom wall half way up the wall, and I’m using metal schluter trim on top. I’m sliding it on while thinset is still not dry. How do I finish the gap between the back of metal trim and wall? Caulk? Drywall mud?
@StarrTile

Bro, why do you keep on starting the saw 1mm away from the material you’re cutting? You started the saw blade while it was resting against the material, it grabbed the piece and the only reason your hand didn’t hit the saw is because it happened to be further away from the piece than usual. I know this because you stated that the problem happened because your hand was too far away. No, that’s actually why you still have a hand. Then you go right back to cutting with the saw hovering nearly against the material again… smh
