How to cut PFL Laminate sheet the easy way
Cutting large plastic laminate sheets 96x34 (or any size) using a straight edge, a trim router and a 3/8 flush cut router bearing bit.
You could use a 1/4" bit but it does not have a bearing on the end and sometimes creates problems. A bearing bit is much smoother riding on the straight edge and will keep the straight edge in good condition for future work.
A larger bit will just create more waste (dust). No one wants to clean up dust so when indoors I use a 3 meter Bosch hose attached to a Ridgid ProPack 5HP shop VAC.
I don't like rolling vacs in a finished kitchen for obvious reasons. The main reason is they get pulled into and ding corners and doors. This ProPack has all the power and stability, coupled with the soft flexibility of the long Bosch hose making cleaning up so fast and easy.
Check out the Ridgid ProPack VAC here... amzn.to/3AiBRe4
I needed a new hose and found Cen-Tec with ALL the connectors included. WOW... amzn.to/3hF6WkS
I have cut Laminate with almost every conceivable method and I have found that this is the fastest, portable, adjustable, flexible, lightest, lower-cost method to cut PFL sheets I have found. I love it. If you try it, you will find just how accurate and fast this method can be.

Not sure if I love, or hate how dead simple this is, after toiling through multiple 8x4 sheets using everything from a razor knife to those laminate sheep-shears to break down the sheets - only to then use a router exactly like yours to neatly trim all the edges after glue-up. DUHHHHH!!!! Many Thanks!

I’m making an outfeed table for my table saw and using Formica to top it. Other than watching dad make the countertops for our kitchen he remodeled when I was 10 all I know is there’s lots of cussing involved! Well I’m (much) older now and wanted to see if I should use a jigsaw or running through the table saw. Turns out I saw your video, watched it first and learned the best way quicker than it’s taken me to comment on how thankful I am

I have a 12 ft [Piece and I need to a little over 6ft off for my first section. It;s cold outside, I wanted to use the zip cutter w a straight edge but I don't have the room inside for that awesome apparatus. I was thinking scissors but this is 180fx and I'd hate to jack it up. I guess I have to think of something else.

Are you using the 3/8 or 1/2 trim bit?
@geowen57
@geowen57 Жыл бұрын
I use both. The 3/8 is smaller and gives less waste to clean up.🙂 amzn.to/3NU8x72

John, use a router and a straight bearing bit. The video demonstrates how that works with a straight edge. The description has a list of the tools used.

Until you have to rip something 12' long. But yeah, that's the best way alright
@diversify210
@diversify210 5 жыл бұрын
Then you go down to your local limber yard and grab a 12' 2x4 and rub the material down using this same method. You dont even need a board the length of the material you need to rip. You can use an 8 foot board and move it when you have cut as far as the board is long. This is not precision. This is just sizing material down close to substrate in which you intend to lay it on, so it does not have to be perfect. There is always a smart ass like LightGesture that think they can do better. Yet the irony is they are here watching the same video everyone else is. What the fuck are you here for then if you know better already and if you do know better. "Dont talk about it, be about it." Lets see your video. Everyone has a phone that can record descent quality video these days. Lets see it. If not then you should shut the fuck up. Seriously.

what tip did you use for the router?
@geowen57
@geowen57 5 жыл бұрын
@@LeeLee-wv9fb Just a straight bit with a bearing. it doesn't really even matter what size, but reducing waste can make a difference so use a small dia bit. I think it was a 3/8, very common used bit for the trade.
