For spade bits, stop when the tip break out the bottom. Turn it over and complete drilling from that side. This eliminates almost all tear out.

Since many woodworkers do repeat business and therefore need to make the same product of over and over again, I'm surprised you didn't cover the best and most efficient way to make large circles/holes which is to make a jig out of MDF then simply use the edge of your router (no guide bushing necessary unless you just want to use one) to make a circle in your work piece. If you don't have a laser cutter, simply pay a laser cutter in your area (make sure they have a 100 watt CO2 laser) a modest fee to make your jig out of 1/2" MDF. There is no better and quicker way to make a perfect large diameter circle than using a properly made jig. For example, if you need a 6" dia circle and you're using a large router with the typical 6" dia base, you make a 9" circle jig which will make the perfect and quickest 6" circle everytime. Regards,
