From black flies to ticks nobody likes bugs, but everyone seems to ask how bad they are and not how to deal with them. So I put together this video with as many tips as I could think of on how to deal with the bugs to help you out!

Dragon fly wingman works amazingly well for Deer and Horse flys only but it needs to be worn on your hat or body, one just in the area does not work. I have been using one for 5 years now and a friend I suggested to use one just got back from his first ever paddling park trip and he was super impressed how they work. I gave one to my brother for his old dog and it too helped keep the deer flys at bay. Mind you a you a young dog might be tough to keep one on.

Jeff McColl that’s interesting to hear. Thanks for the input! I might have to pick one up for myself and give it a go since you’re the second person who’s told me they work great.

Some good advice there Ryan, as someone the blood suckers love, I have used all of these methods except the dragon fly but it makes sense. Having Lived in Haldimand County and spent a lot of time on 6 Nations, the tic capital of Canada and where there is a curfew due to mosquitos, not as bad as Winnipeg, I endorse this podcast. hahaha.

Lol that’s interesting, remind me never to visit the tick capitol of Canada lol. It doesn’t sound like a fun place.

Wind is definitely your friend against bugs, I bought a 4 litre jug of permethrin, I have to treat my camping clothes with it still.

For sure! A windy camp site and some clothes that cover your exposed skin are my go to methods. Let me know how the permethrin goes for you. I’ve considered doing that to some clothes purely for tick season.

@ryansroutes1805 I will let you know for sure, the ticks are the biggest reason I bought it.

Pine wood tar balm is what we use in Northern Sweden. Works great against bugs and you don't poison yourself and the ecosystem

That’s interesting, thanks for the input. There’s a couple natural plants I know of in my area that help with the bugs but I didn’t want to suggest people go out and start harvesting them on trips for that purpose.
