If you're a new grad NP, you've likely wondered how to deal with imposter syndrome (or impostor, apparently it's spelled both ways?).
You know, that feeling of "what exactly did I get myself into??" and "I'm no good at this, maybe I should go back to my old job.."
This is super common, and totally normal -- although that doesn't make it less painful.
In this video, I'll give you my 6 strategies for handling impostor/imposter syndrome, so you can get those distracting thoughts out of your head (you've got enough to worry about without them!).

I just found your videos a week ago and I could just cry. I’m a new urgent care/primary care FNP, I’ve been in practice for 2 months and although I haven’t felt like I’ve been drowning just yet, I have been extremely nervous and anxious while still somehow loving what I do. It’s so comforting hearing your words of advice and I cannot wait to tackle the lab interpretation videos. Thank you for all you do!

I just got my first job in a primary care, and I can’t stop hating myself and thinking what did I do to myself. Watching this makes me feel little better, knowing that I am not alone and this feeling will hopefully go away one day. Thank you again!

Thank you so much for posting this video. I'm setting up clinical and already feel like an imposter. My husband runs into people in the community all the time saying how great of a nurse I am - this really boosts my confidence. I think that Focus on Service is one tip that will really help me to push through and become a great NP.

This video really hits home! I’m a new grad NP and will be starting my first job in July in oncology and hematology which isn’t really my main background as a nurse but I am excited to learn so much! I definitely have thoughts how did I think I could do this? But when you said it’s courageous to actually make your dreams reality that hit me. This is my dream and it’s just so scary that it’s actually happening! But I’m excited to accomplish another challenge and better myself even more. Thank you for your videos!

I am still finishing up PRE-REQS for my BSN, but ultimately plan on getting my MSN not long after, and man the imposter syndrome is already real. Who am I to think that I have what it takes to be a provider for someone when I have never even stepped foot in a hospital or medical setting in a working capacity? I don't know who I am to feel that way, but I KNOW where I want to end up and I am doing what it takes to get there. I have been watching you videos so much lately, and can't wait to continue doing so as I go through my journey. I will definitely check back here in, oh I don't know, 7 years or so when I am a NP lol.

Thanks so much for posting this very helpful video! I’m a new NP at a pain management center, and patient population here is very challenging. My practice as an RN is mainly in the ICU, and dealing with patient’s pain here I guess is easier as they are monitored, and airway is protected - but no way that I’m saying this as an advantage....Now I deal with chronically opioid dependent patients who freaks out when being told to space out their pain medicines. You offer ways to start weaning slowly - such as psychiatry - with pain related to depression or anxiety, and they think you accuse them of being crazy! Offer them weight management for their BMI of 40, as obviously a factor for their knee or back pain --- but they get offended! I thought I was speaking gently enough as I know this is a sensitive matter. I feel now of not even touching those topics again, but then it’ll make me feel negligent to just talk about opioids and other treatments without educating them of other factors affecting their pain. As I know I have to document about education, but I don’t feel right noting that I educated them when I did not because I fear of retaliation. If you have a topic about this, or maybe a speaker that speaks about their experiences as a new NP at a pain center, that’ll be very helpful! Thanks again for motivating new NPs!!!
