How do you deal with bad days and symptom flare-ups? I go over here how to use your brain and nervous system to help you when you are at your worst. These times are actually times of learning and putting us to the test how much we have absorbed the mind-body approach to healing.

I had a flare up today and really found it hard to think positively. I had quite a good day yesterday and was mostly pain free but then the pain was bad today and I feel like my positive mindset took a nose dive and I've been catastrophising all day. But this video has helped get me back on track. Thank you!

I was on the road to recovery last year using the TMS approach. Suddenly I had a marital problem that led to separation that put me flat on my back in pain! I’ve been using somatic tracking and practicing indifference to the symptoms all along since the separation but the pain still persists and it’s disabling. This video gives me hope Jim, thanks

This is amazing stuff and great tips but it’s soooooooooo damn hard to by pass cervical neck issues that give me anxiety and head pressure and feeling of faint. It’s really difficult to turn those off after 25 months of 24/7 issues with this. However I must say , I google every day , I get lost in Facebook resource groups and I live in constant anger about these issues. I am attempting TMS with Nichole Sachs but I don’t understand it to well it’s confusing

Excellent videos - thank you ! I use these strategies and find they work well . I also have “ emergency pain plan “ whereby I practice what i will do if there is a flare up - so essentially i “pretend “ im having a massive pain flare and practice what i will do , so that way it is embedded in my memory better.

Hi Jim, I have been following your videos and doing all the work somatic tracking Journaling and I am almost at the end of this thing. But yesterday I don't know what happened, it was like a hurricane came in and set me back so far, I had this so under control and I feel like I forgot how to do the work, I saved this video and will watch again today. Is it normal to have this happen when you are almost pain free for you to have this big of set back? I been at this 7 months following you and Alan Gordon, thank you for all you do!

I didnt think we could express how we really feel during a flare up. I'm glad because that made it so I could relax more. I guess we shouldn't ruminate for a long time on how we feel, right? Acknowledge for a little while then start the other ideas you mentioned?
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 3 жыл бұрын
Yes acceptance is non doing. Do some fun stuff forget about for awhile. When you do have attention on it embrace it to erase it. Don’t do anything- just allow what is there to pass through as best ya can

Thanks for all the videos. Have been helpful. Is your philosophy applicable to chronic neck tension resulting in tension headaches?
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 3 жыл бұрын
Yes of course tension is the word you mention which is related to stress. A lot of pain in the body is related to tension not structural issues

Question...This is a great video, thank you so much. I've been ill with influenza for the past 2 weeks. From coughing my pelvis has tweaked. I have a small around 10deg S curve scoliosis and that is where my body has chosen to give me pain sensations. The fact that I can "see" this crooked/unevenness is what absolutely freaks me out. I can both feel the twist or pull sensation it causes and see it. I am aware of my holding habbit pattern of going into that pattern when tense, stressed, anxious etc and I assume I've done it since a young child (now 46) and that's perhaps what's caused my spine to curve. How do I feel safe and like my pain is not causing damage when I can see this twist. Thanks again for such great offerings :)

I'm in the midst of a flare up and worried that, by focusing on the emotions caused by the symptoms, I could be making things worse..? I thought the best approach to symptoms was to not feed it with attention.
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 2 жыл бұрын
Yes not feed the physical symptoms. But you do want acknowledge and express any emotions that may have contributed to or caused the physical symptoms.

JIM, I’ve been feeling the pain and doing whatever I want to do anyway knowing I’m ok. There’s one glitch tough that’s frustrating as heck. The next day, no matter how long I sleep, I’m exhausted out of my mind. This is a common symptom for years and it’s my payback for “doing too much”. what can I do with that???
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 2 жыл бұрын
You have to teach your brain it’s not too much. Relax soothe settle your system talk to your brain. Focus on the brain not the pain. Keep going!

Jim ,I’m reaching out to you with a question . When I walk I’m ok when I hit a certain distance the back and leg pain begins the further I go the stronger the pain this has been going on for a few years now. How do I relax when I’m walking? I was told that walking would help me to relax.; it just seems to cause the flare up. What can you suggest? Thanks for any advice you could provide.

What about a bad flare up that comes on just as you are dozing off to sleep? Is it possible to ignore it, relax and just let it be, even when you know 'nothing is damaged down there'? What if the symptoms grind on through the night and keep you awake? You soldier on and tell yourself this is just a bad day (night)?

Hi Jim, I have a flared up today; I keep to reassure myself I'm safe, I'm ok. If I talk to my pain or acknowledge I feel frustration, is it I put attention on it? We are not suppose to give any attention to the symptom, right? Thanks.

Why do you say reply with any questions when you don’t answer any? I had one question 2 weeks ago and you never replied. If you don’t want to answer then don’t say ask questions. Sorry if I seem rude, just frustrated.
