This was like a therapy session I needed today ❤ through your healing I gained healing too, I’ve watched a few podcasts with Gabor (all amazing) but this one because of your rawness to let go helped me on a very deep level. So thank you Gabor for your wisdom and thanks JB for your vulnerability. Truely amazing chat 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

You are enough. Dr Gabor goes back to our beliefs about ourselves and shockingly most of us feel we don't measure up . And to tackle it we have to get to the "biology of that belief" that we are not enough and when it first took rancorous roots...our childhood😢

Gabor Mate was considered very alternative about 10-15 years ago and I'm so thankful he has a wider audience today. I remember watching him on canadian tv and he said most things can be traced back to childhood trauma. I agree 100%.

I’m 37 and I just recently realized I have childhood trauma. In previous years of therapy I always said I had an ideal childhood. A stay at home and school volunteer mom for the first half, my dad coached my sports teams, I had supportive grandparents, we had a neighborhood full of kids and families who had block party’s, etc. I recently realized the emotional and physical abuse my sister subjected me too. The abuse wasn’t severe beatings so I never recognized it as abuse (and I blocked it out), but small cruel infractions when there was no supervision (example: holding me under water in the swimming pool, choking me, any physical harm that wasn’t visible) If I ever complained or told my parents I was a “tattle tale” and was sent to my room. Things were far worse in later childhood and despite parental awareness I was NEVER protected and was never safe in my home. My therapists say that’s why I’m so responsible and bought a house at 25, I needed a forever safe place.

Better later then never, I’m 36 and recognized that I had a traumatic childhood very recently too. Is sounds like it motivated you to do well for yourself and it did for me too. Now it’s just the time to heal and hopefully guide others done the road when we figure out how to help ourselves. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing!

I’m so sorry this happened to you! Something about this just hit me. I have CPTSD from childhood trauma, but I never thought I had a normal upbringing. Did your sister turn out to be narcissistic? I’m so glad you’re in therapy and can see some of the things we do to stay safe. Such as buying a home at 25. Being over achievers, workaholics, etc. What is good from personal experience is I just started healing mine at 48 years old. I wish I would have done the work years ago. Neglect and not being protected is severe emotional abuse. I wish you the best on your healing journey and thanks for sharing this! ♥️

Did my sister beat me up and then go over to your house? 😅. No joke, though…I had the same experience! We had a covert narc for a mother and my sister was the golden child; she could never displease mom, had to be perfect. Rage built up in her and guess who was the recipient? Yes, me, the scapegoat😮. She was so cruel to me and mom never believed that Miss perfect could ever do anything wrong even though she saw the blood dripping down my arm from where she scratched me with her long fingernails! My sister now has asked me for forgiveness and has taken responsibility for my issues because of her behavior. We are close and I totally understand why and how it happened, but I’m still healing from the abuse. Everything is affected - safety, trust, self esteem, self worth, and on and on. You’re not alone.

I think you show a surprising amount of courage to talk about this on air and work through long held, deep and challenging emotions in front of a potentially world wide audience.
