Do you seal the project with a sealer (ie: mod podge, or other sealer) when you're done with the iron?

@@JoanMarieDomino I have tried doing decoupage on vases and they didn't turn out very well but it's new to me and just need to practice more. At least I can wash off my boo boos and start over. But truly love this idea on wood.

Hi Marcia! I don’t think it would work on rough wood because the surface needs to be flat. Plus there may be gaps in rough, it splinters and the napkin could rip off, not adhere well. But you can always try. Joan 🙂

Hi Marie! Thank,you for watching and I’m glad you find my videos helpful and you enjoy them. I enjoy making them! I only seal things that will be handled a lot like jars and cans. I also seal things that go outside. Decor that I am hanging up or will not be handled I see no reason to seal so I skip that step! - Joan 🙂

I don’t use MP on top. Use a spray sealant like rustoleum in glossy finish. Do several really light coats snd allow plenty of drying time between coats

Hi. I just did a large wooden circle with tissue paper, using your method. It mostly looks great, but there are a few spots where it looks like I didn't have enough mod podge, so the paper is wrinkling. Do you have a suggestion to fix those areas? Can I put some light mod podge on top and iron again after it's dry? Thanks for your tutorial!

You can try putting Mod Podge on top but it would have to go thru the tissue paper to get it to adhere to the wood. - Joan

Do you glaze everything or just leave it the way it is? Is the napkin have glue on it that it sticks to the backing , or did you glue the wood first?

I don’t seal everything but most times I do. The glue goes on the wood. 🙂

I have fallen in love with a pattern… on a “cheap” thinner cardstock…think “good” sketch pad paper. can I still use it for decoupage? Or is it too thick of a paper?

You can decoupage on a flat surface using the iron-on method from this video. You can do bigger pieces, thicker paper and the method is the same. - Joan

I'm goingvto try this to make wooden bookmarks do you seal these the same way as you do your glass jars I also had going to get epoxy bookmarks to can I do the same technique as you do the glass jars on them

Hi! I usually don’t seal my bookmarks but you can if you want. I have never seen or heard of epoxy bookmarks. If it’s a plastic product it may melt. -Joan

Hi Monique! This is my rule of thumb. If it’s a sign or something that will never be touched or out in the elements I do not bother. When I do seal I use a clear spray...very light misting...not heavy...a couple coats give time to dry between coats. - Joan 🙂

Great what about the embossed dots that are found at the nankin’s edges would it disappear? If not how to get rid of them

Hi Marie! I have found nothing that I am satisfied. So it is my suggestion NOT to use for hot beverages and possibly for decor only. Some crafters said clear engine spray keeps hot cups from sticking. My experience was that the cups still stuck and left ring marks on the coasters. - Joan 🙂

Hi! Smudge from ink that was not.waterproof. It wrinkled because the glue didn’t completely dry. It take time to dry like several days or more. You can re-iron. Next time give more time to dry and give several very light with LOTS of drying time between coats. - Joan

Sometimes I paint the back of my projects especially if I’m giving it to someone because it looks more finished. I rarely sand wood unless it’s shiny. Usually chalk paint adheres well to wood and the napkin adheres well to the paint. - Joan 🙂

Hi! I don’t know but it’s not what I would call fine. Sometimes Home Depot has the fine sponges. I also use emery board nail files which are very fine! 🙂 - Joan

After you iron on napkin, do you put 1-2 coats of mod podge??

Hi Marilyn! You can put a coat of Mod Podge on top, wait for it to dry then iron again. This is a good way to seal. Just remember to use the baking parchment on top before ironing. You can also use a clear spray sealant. Krylon and Rustoleum make them. Hope that helps! 🙂

Hi! It depends on where it will be going and if it will be handled a lot. You can use a clear spray sealant on top to protect. If you wait a few days you can also do a very light coat of Mod Podge applied with a soft brush. - Joan 🙂

I want to decoupage individual African animals on my drawers. Don’t want to cover the whole drawer but have two or three animals on each drawer. Have seen a zillion u tubes but not one address’s individual pieces on wood. All cover the wood in its entirety. If I put on just the animals, cut out with the water method, Then iron on the individual animals, will I just put the glue where the cut out napkin will go? Also what do I seal it with, varnish, moe glue or nothing Your help would be so appreciated.. Thank you.

Hi Barbara! I have never done this however I would suggest you cover the entire front of the drawers as others have done. I would imagine you could ruin the finish of the wood with spot ironing then trying to add a sealant on top. Sorry I have no experience except what I have read. - Joan

You don’t have to paint the wood, you may not be able to see the napkin design if the wood is to dark

Hi! Put a slit with a scissor in the hole and cut away as much of the napkin as you can with a small scissor. Use a nail file on the edges of the center hole to remove all the excess in a downward stroke. Hope that helps! Joan 🙂

No don’t spray the napkin with water. Take a regular paint brush, dip it in water and trace the image that way. - Joan

Last night i thought it was time to have a go at this. I followed the instructions and it was all going very well. Tissue stuck nicely with no wrinkles or bubbles. This morning I wsa about to put the mod podge on the top to seal it and noticed that they had all wrinkled. So disappointed. Why did it do that when it looked fine last night?

Hi Ardi! Please watch the video! I am very clear on what I use to adhere the napkin to the wood. The adhesive is very important to do the method correctly. Wax paper and parchment paper will NOT work as an adhesive. - Joan
