Here's a better method: In the "Find and Replace" pane, after finding all occurrences of "Tom" instead of selecting the first instance, holding the SHIFT key, and scrolling all the way down till we find the last instance... a better method is to press: CTRL+A (to select all the instances of "Tom" that were found).

I am using Excel for Mac and it does not have the "Find All" option. It seems that MS did not make it an option for Macs. Was there another way for me to delete rows with certain conditions? Thank you much.
@ExcelBytes
@ExcelBytes 3 жыл бұрын
Not all that familiar with Excel for Mac, but here might be an option: Turn on filters and filter the rows by whatever criteria. Select the filtered range. Choose visible cells only (in windows this is a keyboard shortcut Alt plus semicolon, in windows you can also hit the F5 function key, click on Special, then select "visible cells only" and hit OK ) . Now delete those rows and you should be left with everything else. I would test this on some sample data first to make sure you don't delete any original data that you didn't want to.

@ExcelBytes
@ExcelBytes 2 жыл бұрын
I assume you want to keep the original and only delete the duplicates. It would be a multi step process. You can add a helper column and use the COUNTIF function to see where the duplicates are, the use the FIND option to choose those rows and delete them. If you want to send me a sample copy of your data and describe what you want to accomplish, I'd be happy to help. You can send it to mrempel@excel-bytes.com.

It would be easier to see the data, but one option would be to use a helper column to the right of your data and insert an IF formula that would indicate Yes or No based on the criteria you mentioned, then use the rows with YES to determine which to delete.

Try these steps: Activate the filters. Uncheck Tom in the filter list, click OK. This should filter the list to everyone but Tom. Highlight the list of names and use the keyboard shortcut Alt + ; (the Alt key plus the semi-colon key). This will select all the visible cells. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + - (hold down the Ctrl key and press the minus sign on the keypad). You should get a pop up that says "Delete entire row?". Click OK. Depending on the details of your data, yes, there can be. One method would be to add a helper column, just another column on the right of your data, then use an IF formula to add a value like an "x" if the criteria is met. Then use the process described in this video to delete the rows with an "x". Thanks for the video! Do you have any recommendations for removing a bunch of columns that only have data in the first row? I have field names in the first row, but there are several fields without data associated with them.
@ExcelBytes
@ExcelBytes 2 жыл бұрын
Let me clarify. You have a worksheet with several columns, and it the first row, some of the cells have data and others do not, and you want to delete the entire columns where there is data in the first row? Are the other cells in the first row truly blank, or do they have formulas or other characters in them and only look blank?
@christianmagill3829
@christianmagill3829 2 жыл бұрын
@@ExcelBytes Much thanks for them response! I have a worksheet where the first row holds labels for the columns, First Name, Email, Etc. Some of these columns have data in the cells below, and some are empty beyond the label in the initial row. I’d like to remove the columns where there is only the label in the initial row and no other data.
@ExcelBytes
@ExcelBytes 2 жыл бұрын
@@christianmagill3829 OK, so every column has a header, but not all columns have data below the header, and you want to delete all the columns that have a header but have no data in row 2 for that column. If that is correct, here is what you do: select row 2 for all the columns, hit F5 on your keyboard, click on "Special", click blanks, click OK, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl and the minus sign from your keypad, choose "Entire column", click OK. That should work. If it's not what you want, do a Ctrl + Z to undo it. This assumes that the items in now 2 that you want to delete are truly blank, and do not have formulas or other characters in them that just make those cells appear to be blank. Let me know what happens. Make sure you save your file first in case things go awry. If they do, you can always close the file without saving it and get back what you had before.
@christianmagill3829
@christianmagill3829 2 жыл бұрын
@@ExcelBytes Thanks for this! One clarification just to make sure it doesn't change the recommendation, there may be data in any row, not just row 2. Some columns might have data in say row 18 but no data in row 2. I'm just looking to remove columns that have nothing from row 2+
@ExcelBytes
@ExcelBytes 2 жыл бұрын
@@christianmagill3829 Well, that's a pretty significant clarification. If you have a lot of columns and also many rows so it's not easy to visually see what columns to delete, you many want to insert a row above the header, then enter this formula above the first column and copy it across: =IF(COUNTA(C3:C16)=0,"x",COUNTA(C3:C16)). Notice I started in row 3, assuming the formula will be in row 1 and the headers are in row 2. This shows data in only 16 rows, so you will need to adjust that based on the size of your data. Now when you copy that across you will see an "x" above any column where there is no data from row 3 down. Now if you hit F5, "Special", then choose Formulas, but uncheck everything but "text", now it will highlight only the cells with an "x". Then you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl and the minus sign from your keypad, choose "Entire column", click OK.

@@Vziera Using the example data from the tutorial, I would enter into N2 this formula: =A2="Tom", and copy it down. This will result in a series of TRUE or FALSE. Copy those and paste values only in the same range. Now you can do a Find All for "FALSE" and delete those rows.

Instead of deleting tom how do I only keep tom and delete everything else in that column
@ExcelBytes
@ExcelBytes 3 жыл бұрын
A quick, simple way would be to add a helper column at the and and insert the formula =A2="Tom" and copy it down. You'll get a series of TRUE or FALSE. Convert those to values instead of formulas. Then use the same process to find FALSE and delete those rows.

How to delete rows who had completely blank but not to those whose are partially blank
@ExcelBytes
@ExcelBytes 2 жыл бұрын
It would be easier to reply if I saw what your data was like, but one simple way is to add a helper column, then in that column use one of the COUNT functions to determine if there is anything in that row. Then you can use those results to select the rows that are completely blank. If you want to send me a sample of your data, I can show you what I mean. You can send it to mrempel@excel-bytes.com

How to delete rows where cell value in a column A starts with number
@ExcelBytes
@ExcelBytes Жыл бұрын
That depends. I'm not sure your specific situation. Are the items in column A alpha-numeric? Are you looking for a specific text string like "23Tom"? Are you looking for anything that starts with a "2" or anything that starts with any number? What exactly is your criteria? You need to be more specific.

@@ExcelBytes The data usually is dynamic. It sometimes is all numbers, sometimes mixed. But my specific requirement is to only delete the rows where column 'A' cell values starts with a number

@ExcelBytes
@ExcelBytes Жыл бұрын
@@ayushijain1242 I would use a helper column. So, assuming your data starts in cell A2, in some column in row 2 use this formula: =IF(ISNUMBER(LEFT(A2,1)*1),"Y","N") Now you can use the process in the video looking for a "Y" in that column and delete those rows.

I want to apply on google sheet.How i do it?
@ExcelBytes
@ExcelBytes 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not an expert in Google sheets, and what I can see they don't have "find all". One thing you might want to try (do this on test data so you don't mess up your important information) is to add a column numbering all your rows. Then sort the data by the column that you want to use to delete the rows (in my example it would be column A with the names). After sorting, delete the rows that contain the selection you want to delete. Finally, resort by the number column you added to return the data to its original sorting - without the delete rows.
