I'll show you a couple different ways to delete Torque Management to give you a quicker and trimmer shift especially noticeable at full throttle shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gears.

Did this 8 years ago in my 02 4.7 HO. It’ll chirp tires on the 1-2 shift haha. Everyone thinking this hurts and does harm and blah blah have never worked on a vehicle, probably have a piece of paper with ASE written all over it and probably own tools from a white service truck with red letters on it. Slip creates heat. Both on their own kills an auto, together are detrimental. The quicker and firmer the shifts, the longer an auto will last. The ONLY reason for a soft shift in an auto is for COMFORT and nothing else. Soft, lazy shifts is the equivalent of resting your foot on the clutch pedal 24/7

Great video as usual Martin, I literally did this last week to my WJ. I like it so far, thinking about running wires and putting in a toggle switch. Do you think 18 gauge wires would be suffice to complete the job and where would be a good place tackle when running those two wires through the firewall? Thanks @martinbuilt
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 3 жыл бұрын
There's a couple places one would be on the driver side where the harness comes through the firewall you'll find a couple small grommets near that harness that are easy to run the wires through and then there's another place behind the ECM or the harness goes through the firewall.

Note once every 10-15 starts the thing runs like a dog spews smoke out the tailpipe and will stall at idle- will restart and it will run normally, but at stops RPM will bounce from a good 600 to 400. Letting off gas in higher gears trans will act up. Rough shifts here and there. Overall tranny shifts good. Its like the Jeep is haunted. Im thinking vacuum leaks.

@martinbuilt

That is so weird because that wire should have nothing to do with any of the cylinders. Try using an ohm meter going from the wire that you cut back to the number 10 position at the TCM to verify that it is the correct wire.

The old plugs had a huge gap almost .125 the new ones obviously didn't have this. Could this be caused by the TPS? I've reset the computer and still a slightly high idle. At first start it hits 1500 then comes down. What would cause this. Appreciate any info.

I am planning on moving the TCM for sure unfortunately it's going in a place where an off-roader would not want it just behind the transfer case near the frame. The ECM is going to most likely stay where it's at I'm just going to make the wiring look way better. I had thought about moving the TCM into the glove box location and sacrificed the glove box.

Awesome video and content on your channel. Keep up the great work. Question from my side. I am having an issue where the engine will stall when shifting from N-D or N-R or P-R or P-D. Don't have any error codes related to gearbox. This also only happens when the vehicle is warmed up. 545rfe transmission. Sometime when idling in P or N the engine will stumble and drop rpm then recover again. Any pointers will be appreciated 😎

That definitely sounds like the idle air control valve either needs to be cleaned or replaced.
@chrismorton4533
@chrismorton4533 3 жыл бұрын
This sounds a bit like a worn out torque converter. There is two parts the will slip on each other when you're at a stop to keep the engine running but when it wears out, it binds and causes the engine to stop when engaging in a drive gear. That's why when you go from P to N it will stumble but stay running. That'd because both P and N are neutral gears whereas drive engages your car to the ground. It's almost like leaving the clutch out in manual and stopping at a red light. Check your fluid level and condition, hope this helps. Great vids Martin!

@@chrismorton4533 thanks for the insight. I changed the IAC but still the same issue. Also think this is more gearbox related. What I have noticed is when I cruise on highway speed with my foot stable on throttle with a small incline, it's as if it is engaging and disengaging the lockup clutch. The rpm wil fluctuate and can feel it fluctuating. This happens repeatedly. Also when I sometimes engage D it will have a harsh kick where the car will jump forward. Does that diagnose it to the torque converter on it's way out?

I loved the 01 4.7L 5speed sport I had.... before I had found out about ur channel I was running a Fastman Dan throttle body and 08 cams intake and adapter from fastman Dan. I tried many different types of ignition coils and I finally found Sultans Of Spark coils for my 07 Dakota. They’re actually cheaper than OEM and they have 8.4ohmz vs the stock 7.3ohmz so this means yah gap ur plugs to about .65 for better burn...

Hi Martin can I use 0w30 oil on my wj 4.7l
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 2 жыл бұрын
Well this is what Google has to say about it. 0W-30 is a special type of motor oil. It has a low viscosity and can be used in place of 5W-30 or 10W-30. The 0W-30 is a fully synthetic motor oil type that is capable of enhancing and improving fuel economy due to its lower friction properties. I may give that a try for the winter and then back to 5W30 for the summer.🤔

I just attempted this on my 2002 Overland. I went out there, found the gray connector (the larger of the two) and cut the yellow/green wire. Then when I went for a drive, I found that I had no speed or odometer. And my check engine light came on (P0500 -- no speed sensor). So I came home and reconnected that wire with a butt connector. I cleared the code, went for another drive. The check engine light came back on (same code), though I have speed again. I keep clearing the code but it won't go away even after reconnecting that wire. I came back and re-watched this video. On my WJ, it's a pink wire with a green stripe that is in that #8 position. I hadn't paid attention to the actual wire position; I just focused on yellow/green. So it's worth nothing that the wire color may not be the same. But now I have a new problem to figure out with the CEL. Sigh. At this point I'm not cutting anymore wires.
