Thank you for the extensive information and video; I was able to rewire my Civic--I had all windows failing, speaker failing, and had just lost door locks :) The instructions on releasing the pins were fantastic, as was the wiring guide.

Thanks for taking the time to make this, it's exactly what I needed to fix the connector on my 97 Civic. Incidentally, when I went to the junkyard to get a replacement plug, the wires were shot on every civic I looked it. I looked in an Acura Integra, and the plug and wires were like new, but all in the wrong positions (wrong wire size and colors in the various locations.) I plan on soldering the wire ends from the Integra onto the Civic wires in my door jamb rather than sourcing new terminals.

Thank you so much for all this background, I am in the middle of this exact job, I can't thank you enough, especially at 16:32 when you show how to release the wire ! I made up a depinning tool that works by grinding a small screwdriver until it did the job.

Thank you for the information about the duplicate wires. Both my grounds broke off so I had no idea where the heavier gauge was supposed to go since it doesn't mention gauge at all in the service repair manual. I figured the white tab lock but I didn't know I had to lift up to release the pins. I did it by just forcing them out with one of the tools from my terminal pin remover kit. I'm in the middle of the job now.

Thank you for this excellent video, I did this to my 2001 Honda CRV (1st Gen) it has the exact same connector. The 1st Gen CRV is prone to the wires breaking near the drivers door harness. which effected the operation of the power door locks.

Thanks for sharing. I ruined two c556's before finding this video. I was using a Lisle 56500 terminal tool to get the pins out. Apparently the inside of the connector gets damaged when the pins are forced out. I was able to get the pins out however when I attempted to re-insert the used ones they would not click into place and hold. I attempted to plug the harness back into the door and the male ends just pushed some of the pins back out. Back to the junk yard to get another connector and remove the pins the right way.

thanks for the video it clears up so many things, unfortunately I used every possible thing as a depinning tool but I can't lift the primary lock up, it will bend the tool no matter what (used thin screwdriver, some depinning tool (not oem), safety pin, paper clip, etc), some of them I got out but not easy to do :(

Thank you for making this video. What is the AWG for the smaller and larger wires going to the connector? I think you said 16-20 gauge for the larger wires. I may want to get wire of both sizes to make pigtails to lengthen the wire depending on what's broken. Is there enough slack in the wire to make this unnecessary? Thank you again.

@girdlephile
@girdlephile 5 жыл бұрын
Kevin K, I had to review the video and the Terminal Replacement Instructions to be clear on that. The first crimpers (Honda crimper and Painless roll over crimper) are for crimping the pin terminals to the wire. The second crimpers (other Honda crimper and Harbor Freight) are for splicing two wires with a splice terminal (butt connector).

+Agha Immad I am glad it is helping you somewhat. I heard of Civics in Pakistan but I have never had any interaction with anyone from there so this is cool. What part are you breaking? If it is the individual clips per wire, you might be okay when you put them back in because the secondary lock should still hold them.

+Nicolas Shambow You have a short to ground somewhere. You need to get a circuit breaker that resets and follow the wire with a compass unit you no longer have any fluctuations in the needle of the compass. Search for how to find a short using a compass and start there.

Why is there multiple wires with same color scheme? I'm soldering in a new harness and have noticed there is two blu/blk and two blu/wht. Are these interchangeable?
@optimistichorizon
@optimistichorizon 7 жыл бұрын
Matthew Binkley 6:45 No, one wire is a larger diameter or smaller numbered guage. The video at 6:45 goes over exactly what you are looking for. Great question.
@mbinkley2
@mbinkley2 7 жыл бұрын
optimistichorizon yes sir, one of the blu/blk is larger in diameter but both the blu/whts are same. I have a 00 civic ex 5 speed and this thing is hard to find EXACT parts for so I went to junk yard and snatched a 4 door harness and deleted the other two doors from harness. Went really well, fixed my power windows and driver side speaker but now my sunroof doesn't work and my locks lol. I'm certain it's something in those 4 wires that are similar. I haven't checked yet but hopefully I've popped a fuse or relay that controls the locks and sunroof. Idk
@optimistichorizon
@optimistichorizon 7 жыл бұрын
Matthew Binkley you should only have one Blue/white wire for the mirror in slot 20. Sunroof may share a ground but the wires are not in the door. check for power at the switch. check for power at the motor of the sunroof. put power straight to the motor to see if it works. buy a power probe 3 if you can. It will save you a lot of hassle. buy a tone generator to trace wires. let me know what your progress turns out to be.

+Lachell Jennings Did they work before you fixed the most recent problem in this area? Remove the door panel and disconnect the connector if there is one and check for voltage. Check for voltage at the C556. If you have the proper voltage with no voltage drop, check the switch for continuity. And again always check your fuses first. You may have blown one again.

HELP!!!! I removed connector and just ran wires directly to each other was this a mistake nothing is working
@optimistichorizon
@optimistichorizon 9 жыл бұрын
+Lachell Jennings Possibly that was a mistake. if the connection is not insulated from each other you will blow a fuse. Are all the spliced wires connected to the same colors? The same diameter wire or gauge? After making sure you have done this, use heat shrink or at least wrap each wire individually with electrical tape. Once this is done then you should check all of your fuses to see if any have blown. Replace if necessary and inspect to see if problem persists. If not, congratulations. If so, watch the video again in its entirety. I spent a month on obtaining this information and presenting it in a through manner for anyone to see. So please, click play and enjoy.
