1. Check if the ‘CLEAN / DESCALE’ light is illuminated (solid on), descaling is required.
Add Descaling Solution to water tank (Follow cleaning instruction)
2. Press and hold the 2-CUP button and then press and hold the POWER button simultaneously to enter the Descale mode.
The unit will heat up as part of commencing the descaling action, during the heating processes the POWER button should flash continuously. The machine will indicate it is ready for descaling when the POWER button, 1 CUP button, CLEAN/DESCALE indicator and HOT WATER/ STEAM indicator are all illuminated (solid on).
Descaling the coffee component
4. Press the 1-CUP button to start the descaling for the coffee component of the machine. Descaling coffee component
takes approximately 25 seconds. The 1CUP button should flash continuously and remain constant once the descaling process has finished. To terminate the descaling within 25 seconds, press the 1 CUP button again.
Descale the Steam and hot water components
Descaling steam and hot water takes approximately 13 seconds and 8 seconds respectively. Descaling can be terminated prematurely by turning the steam dial to STANDBY.
5. Descale Steam component by turning the steam dial RIGHT towards the icon.
6. Descale Hot water component by turning the steam dial to the LEFT towards the icon.
Repeat processes to complete descaling
After the above processes about half (17 fl. Oz / 0.5L) of the descale solution should be left in the water tank.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 above to complete the descaling process to empty the solution in the tank.
Descaling Solution Rinse
8. After descaling, remove the water tank and rinse thoroughly then refill with fresh cold water to the maximum capacity (68 fl. oz / 2L) and repeat steps 4-6 to further cleanse the machine of any residue of the cleaning solution thoroughly.
9. Press ‘POWER’ to quit the descaling process. This will be indicated by the LED lights switching off.

Thanks for the video, helped a lot since I can't find my manual. Couple tips though that weren't totally clear for me. The 2 cup and power button method to start the descale process wasn't working for me, bc my machine was already on and it kept turning the machine off when I tried. So I figured out to make sure your machine is off, then hold the 2 cup button and then the power button and it will work. Also, I saw you did it in your video, but you didn't actually mention it. When doing the descaling, make sure to run the solution through the steam wand and hot water spout, as well as the espresso spot, to descale the whole machine. And lastly, instead of buying the descaling solution, you can use 50/50 vinegar and water for a fraction of the price but same outcome!

06:25 - if it doesn't power-on properly after power-down (both the power button and the steam/hot water lights are flashing), then check if the steam/hot water dial hasn't been left in the standby position. It's easy to leave it out of standby after flushing because the water volumes are fixed when operated through the dial.

Thank you so much! I read the manual and I didn’t understand. It tells me to “hold 1-cup and 2-cup at the same time and hold that for 10 seconds. While pressing those 2 buttons, also hold the power for 3 seconds.” This video made me enjoy my mornings again! (I am not a morning person. I just made more adjustments to the grinder and machine. I set the grinder at 11 and cut the grind time to 4 sec. makes an even better shot.

I have one question though, can I use vinegar instead of the descaler solution? Or that would harm the machine? And if so, what brand do you recommend to buy as a descaler? And also what brand do you recommend for the tablets to do ‘clean me’? Thanks in advance!

According to Breville, "Pour in a 50/50 mixture into the water tank of white vinegar and water up to the MAX line. White vinegar is recommended as it is all natural and has the highest content of acetic acid."

Hi! Thanks for you video! 2 questions.. 1- Do you do the discaling after doing the first cleaning with the « pellet » 2- while you do the discaling, when the product is done and you do a second round with clean water, do you put back the filter? Hey Hoon, I have followed your advice and I am getting much better espresso from my machine now, but I have 2 questions that I have not seen you give advice on yet: 1) what do you recommend for the grind amount setting and 2) how much pressure would you suggest when using the tamper? I think they will both effect the pressure that the machine is able to provide, and would love to hear your advice. Thx again!

From all barista jobs I've worked at, you want to apply no more than 30 lbs of pressure when tamping. Too much tamping and your shots will run long because they're too compact and the water can't run through well. Too little and the opposite will occur. Honestly, playing around with your tamping and seeing how the shots pull (either too fast or slow) can help you figure it out and see it for yourself. I hope this helps. Make sure you're not using your full weight when tamping, just a nice pressure from your wrist. :)

@@hails.bells99 I've used some advice from some videos (and from pg 22 in the manual) that the the pressure that works best pulls the shot in 25 to 35 seconds. Anything faster makes it taste sour. Anything slower tastes bitter. A big variable, too, is the type of coffee you use. It tastes much better using coffee roasted for espresso. Starbucks Blonde Espresso grind is very good! I used to switch around using different coffees before grinding all the way through the previous beans. So sometimes the grind was a mixture of 2 different coffees. That will drive you crazy getting the right amount of coffee and grind size to make a good and consistent espresso. One last piece of advice. Flavored coffees, even the top 2% arabica beans, will gum up the process as you try to get the right combination of settings. I've never made it work and wasted good, expensive coffee in the process.

I followed the instructions and the light went off . Thanks. I tried someone else's you tube video first and it didn't work. I think a lot of the potions are a rip off. I think some of them are pretty much citric acid.

White vinegar and water solution (1 part vinegar to 2 part of water) does the trick for me, although the smell is really annoying. But is way cheaper, just as effective and easy to find.
