In this video we'll walk through 5 easy and practical tips designed to help you build more effective PowerPoint and Keynote presentations at work, based on best practices from the consulting industry. You'll see what the best presentation designers at firms like McKinsey, Bain, BCG, and Deloitte do to avoid "death by PowerPoint", and how they've learned to build slides that are simple and easy to follow, yet insightful and persuasive.
Whether you use PowerPoint, Keynote, or some other presentation tool, this video will teach you how to create slides that will impress your team, your boss, the executives at your company, or anyone else who is fortunate enough to see your slide deck. Although this video is focused on those in an office environment, the concepts can be broadly applied to a variety of people including university students, influencers, small business owners, or bike messengers.

I think most people don't give enough value to presenting a good slide, thinking that's only for consultants. But the truth is, we are 'consultants' to others on the domain of expertise wherever we are in. And that's the crux - very often technical people are so good at what they are doing that they forget that everyone else isn't. And the purpose of presentations is to help others understand what you are trying to tell them. Sadly many can't.

Watched, liked, subscribed and already becoming a fan. From time to time, it's good to rethink our way to work, remember the basics and refresh the key principle that "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" (but for sure it takes a lot to be achieved :)). Thanks for these insightful videos!

1:30 when you present, the audience is hearing, reading, and thinking of a response. 2:25 a content-heavy, dense presentation. 3:15 first tip: nail the title should be full-sentenced and a key-takeaway for audience. the example from Deloitte. 3:50 second tip: guide the reader, with pyramid principle. the example from BCG: title - subtitle - detail 1. chart; 2. key insights. 6:20 third tip: add visual. help audience to process the info efficiently. data with charts, and text with icons. the example from PwC, Bain 8:00 fourth tip: annotate your charts. to bring focus! 9:25 fifth tip: bring a perspective. what you think and what might audience feel important -- they give me a shortcut. directly. 10:50 the top slide maker, make their audience feel smart.

On the last slide about electricity, China should be on the beginning of the slide. The principle moving from top to down and vice versa, this principle works for charts, for example slide about Top 3 luxury brands. I understood why they highlited China with green rectangle, but it's not smooth to look at this chart. Great job! Thanks a lot!
@AnalystAcademy
@AnalystAcademy 3 жыл бұрын
Do you mean putting China in the title or as the first column of the table? If it's the latter, I agree that the ordering feels a bit random. I don't think it's as important as the ordering of columns in a column chart (as in the example you mentioned), but I can't say I disagree with you. Nice catch!

Really insightful video! I appreciate the quality content that this channel offers, pls continue posting! Especially the final thoughts, we should always view slide creation from the reader’s perspective Quick question , are there any recommended situations on when I should insert icons? Because my concern is that the icons might clutter the slide when used inappropriately
@AnalystAcademy
@AnalystAcademy 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying the content. I can't say there's a hard and fast rule for when to use icons or not, but I agree that they can sometimes make the slide too cluttered. I would just avoid using them too often (e.g. every slide), and I would also avoid them on slides that already have too many other non-text visuals (e.g. charts, graphics). They work great for text heavy slides like in the video (06:55) because they help visualize something that is inherently non visual.
