Hi there! In this video I explain what is included in the Tamiya Hop-Up #OP-1416 - The R/C 4x4 Vehicle Driver Figure.
The driver comes in kit form and you need to assemble the plastic parts as required to fit your cockpit, and there is room for small adjustments of the arm positions. I am fitting the driver to the cockpit (kindly provided by Steve of RC Crawlers Mid-Wales) in my SCA-1E Range Rover, but this figure should fit most 1/10 scale RC trucks.
I have a go at detailing the figure using a mix of acrylic and enamel paints.
The driver figure is of good detail and quality and is quite cheaply available at most RC outlets. Highly recommended!
As always, take care and thanks for watching!

Cool, thanks John! Oh yes, the best a man can get!!! I like him looking a bit shabby, a bit like me! To be honest, he does look a lot better in natural light, the LED lights that I film under don't give a true reflection of the colour tones. All the best, mate. :-)

"A bit distressed-looking", ha ha, you got me laughing there, Mark! I have to admit I admire you who can do those scale things, I don't have the skill nor the patience for it. I always use Tamiya drivers for my RC crawler builds. They are cheap, right size and very light. When painted well look very real. With some heat, a dremel, a knive and some sandpaper you can shape them easy to fit your interior. And paint options are endless. Great work on yours.

Hello and thanks for the great comment - I totally agree with you, these figures are just perfect for a 1/10 cockpit. I also used a little heat on this driver's arms to get them in exactly the right position. All the best, take care. :)

Hell Mark you absolutely nailed that paint job ! Very impressive. Are you a secret miniature painter ( parading as an RC'er ) as you incorporated so many little touches that a only miniature painter would address and many folks would ignore. Lovely too see you had the foresight and skill to go that extra yard for the love of your hobby. I'm talking about painting in the eyebrows, painting the lips a pinky hue ( brilliant ) and of course adding the stubble - nice technique using watered down paint. Impressive work mate. Great job in all the plastic surgery required to get this guy to fit in the cab too. Great use of an old DVD case. Tell you what, you've just improved the look of an already beautiful RC by about 100% and I very much look forward to seeing this interior and driver in the car. Top stuff..👍🏻👍🏻 and hats off mate...👍🏻👍🏻.

Hmm, meant to add. First coats always tend to look crap and patchy, but it's always better to do several thin coats ( like you did ) than slopping on one thick coat. That way you retain the crisp detail of the sculpt.

Hi Mark, these Tamiya drivers are great. I like the dark brown seats for the interior and the footwell mod. The back of the driver fit 99% perfect. I found two of these on Ebay last year for $9.99 each and two Wild Will Drivers for $16.99 each, all new in the packages!! Not sure how I'm going to use them but now I know how to paint them better! Never thought to use acrylic artist paint for RC hard plastic but it makes sense. Nice tutorial as usual. The fine detail with the small brush was really cool, you have a nice touch and technique....And you are much better looking then the tamiya driver...and younger 😀

Hi Paul - sorry for the late reply my friend. I have been unwell and in hospital. On the mend now though! Basically old age and bad habits kicking in. Anyway, thanks for the great comment. You got a good deal on those driver figures, I'm sure they will come in handy. The good thing about painting a figure is that you can always re-paint if you are not happy with the results! I'm sure you will do a fine job. Hehe, thanks for the compliment, I think I made the driver look older than me on purpose! Best to you, my friend.

This is so useful Mark. I had no idea these figures fit this generic interior. I have two of these interiors waiting to be installed in a couple of my crawlers. I usually use WWE wrestling figures with these interiors. You have to cut to cut them in half at the waist and hot glue their torsos in. I use them because they can be found cheap on eBay, and if you have to cut an action figure in half cheap is the way to go ! lol. They look ok and serve the purpose, but the Tamiya figure looks really good, especially as his legs are showing and you can incorporate the included steering wheel too. I have one of these figures already, but I have the full Tamiya Bruiser interior to go with him as well which I'm saving for something else I have in the pipeline. But I will definitely buy a few more of these Tamiya figures for the generic interiors I have. Thank you very much for making this video Mark. I just hope that the figures haven't sold out everywhere now !

Hi Derek - I'm so pleased you found this little video useful. I think you have used those action figures to great effect. I like this Tamiya figure because it's quite light and shouldn't upset the balance of the truck. Plus he's cheap, always good for a tight ass like me! I see you found a couple of figures for sale!!!! :P Thanks for the lovely comment my friend - enjoy the figure painting! :) PS sorry for the late reply, but you know why...
