Hello there! I really should re-do this video, thanks for the inspiration. I no longer use the fabric softener .. I just use Jon Renau wig shampoo and conditioner for synthetics. Wash according to instructions. The best thing I have learned with experience is LIMIT washing to when absolutely necessary. Like your favorite blouse, as soon as you wash it, it's never quite the same in terms of brilliance and fiber resilience. XOXO

Taz I have not slept I just keep watching your videos. I am so glad you did the video on new to wigs. It is very emotional losing your hair, and then very confusing to find the right cap, color and style of wig. Believe me your videos saved me from crying. I had a wig shop in the late 90's - early 2000's and also did washing and styling for people's wigs. I always used laundry detergent. Never any static problems. I used a wig conditioning spray once dried which helped troubled ends on older wigs revive, and made curly wigs piecey. Really, I don't think it matters what you use to wash them, but I suspect anything like emolients like fabric softener will attract dust or pollutants, making it dull and you may feel you have to wash it more often. You want to use something that will remove oils from the head. Some people use Zote soap to lather the sink water up and then soak the wig.

Good morning Taz! I am breathing a sigh of relief. I finally got a wig that I am almost completely satisfied with. The Noriko Sky in Mochaccino R. Taking it to my stylist Tuesday to get bangs put in it. Thanks for all of your helpful videos. I don't have to wear a wig. I just want to. My hairdresser says my hair is "fine, but you have a lot of it". That to me is the same as saying "you have pennies, but you have a lot of them. It's not so good LOL.

I hang mine on a robe hook or hook inside the shower.. I hook it at the nape. I have never had a problem with stretching:-) Have a great day! XOXO

Hello, thank you for your videos I love watching all of them. Do you use the Downey trick on Fully hand tied wig. Is it recommend not putting conditioner close to the knots, Has he could loosen those delicate knots? Thanks

I do no recommend conditioning on the knots, but don't be afraid to soak in conditioner.. it will not hurt unless you swirl at the knot area XOXO

FYI There is a honeysuckle fabric softener available now. Which smells divine. It is Mrs Meyers I believe. It is not cheap. But I bought it anyway and love its scent.

Anna Foglietta Hi Anna.. it’s all about experimentation and preference. I rinse mine. I find that the fs dies leave a waxy film if I don’t rinse. But it will not harm the wig. XOXO

I just soaked my topper in Snuggle today because I saw some videos that this would make the fibers soft again and reduce the frizzy ends. I did not see/feel difference in the fibers. 😕

I've only washed my Billy in bubble gum r one time. But the pink went away ! I used fabric softener. Cool water. But the pink disappeared.

If you don't have any Jon renau detangler or don't want to afford it, good alternative is 4 parts water to 1 part Downy fabric softener. I tried several other brands and it doesn't really matter what brand you use but I'm not found any of that work as well as Downy, for some reason. I use gain liquid fabric softener on my clothes when I use it (I use wool balls and love them, I scent them with essential oils, so I can customize for the season or holiday!) but buy Downy for my wigs. Just a little FYI 🤦🤷😃

Hi Taz I am always scared to submerge my synthetic wigs in conditioner - I have had a bad experience with human hair knots loosening and shedding......have you had any trouble with soaking the cap - have you ever found the cap stretches from the fabric softener?

I use fabric softener on occasion very successfully. Mainly I use Jon Renau Shampoo and leave in conditioning spray:-)

Well! Thanks for answering so fast! 😃. And what do you do for dry tips? Is this why people use silicon spray? I have not tried it yet. And i don’t know How to make my only wig soft and smooth even if i wash and conditioned her. Last week, i used à leave-in conditioner spray on my dry wig and i noticed some burned hair!😕. Is there a way to fix that or is my wig good for garbage? And Thank you for what you do for us And you are very lucky to have a great head shape! Everything you wear looks great on you! 🥰

Can you add a bit of softener with the shampoo, wash, then rinse? I'm around smokers outside so I'm thinking I probably need the shampoo, but softener sounds good also.

Vena Mecklenburg I wash it as little as possible... usually about every 10X I wear it for a whole day. If I sweat or use product in it, I wash more frequently. XOXO

Have you ever gotten an editors pick where the bangs on the left side were super short like someone chopped a hunk out? My Shaded biscuit is super short at the left side bang area, like maybe an inch and a half.

Very helpful video, Taz!! Thank you so much. You mentioned the static in the wig hair...THAT is exactly the problem that I have cuz... (bad girl) I BRUSHED my darn wig too much. OOPS, now I know that is a BIG NO NO!! FINGERS ONLY! Ok.. so I will do that from now on. BUT...I sprayed it with Static Guard. lol And after seeing your other vids I KNOW I should NOT have done that, and I will NOT do it again. I will try a bit of watered down fabric softener and run my fingers thru the fibers and hope it comes back to curly-er. Or even spray it a bit with that solution. I HOPE that is the right thing to bring it back since I am going on vacation in just TWO days...and WITH my wig on my head, first time in public. Hope I don't lose my nerve, cuz I really really don't want to fight with my stick straight thin brown boring hair and have to bring all my hair 'stuff' with me!!!! o_O THAT is precisely WHY I purchased my wig. I learned THAT from YOU!!!!

I don't use fabric softener on my wigs.. just regular shampoo designed for synthetic wigs (Jon Renau). I am not opposed to using fabric softener, however as I demonstrated here. I have never had any problems with it. Hope this helps! XOXO

Taz, I don't know if you'll see this, but if you do, I'm curious if you still use the same products? I'm especially wondering about the Simply Stylin spray, is that a substitute for any of these steps? Because I bought some, but I don't know if it's worth it to also get the detangler or conditioner sprays. Taz will the makeup remover work on the lace front also? Between washes my bronzer gets on the front of my lace front & I’ve used my makeup eraser cloths to gently remove it but wonder if this may work better. I always rinse mine too & never leave them very long either. I try to wait until they really need to be washed as well as I rotate different pieces daily or every day or so. Thanks for this great how-to. 👍🏼👍🏼

I use makeup remover on my lace.. but since micellar water and makeup removers are made with oil, I hesitate to recommend it for lace. I have never had an issue with it, but I would feel badly if it loosened the knots:-) XOXO

I did take a look at it and it is truly lovely ... my last question is in ur opinion do u feel that this one will have volume on the top? I watch all your videos and you seem to know so much about wigs ( and by the way they all look great on you ) so I would luv ur expert opinion on this? Thank you and God bless !

Hi Taz! Thanks for the tips Do you ever get annoyed by the stray fibers that always seem to find their way to your face to tickle your nose, cheek, or forehead? Do you know of tricks to keep this from happening?. Thanks

4everArtista Yeah.. the stray fibers can get stirred up through styling and dry air/static. I use a water bottle and some silicon spray for the stubborn ones. XOXO

Hi Taz, I greatly appreciate your informative videos and want to thank you for helping all of us wig wearers. I looked in the comments to find out what wig you are wearing during this video and your response was “Ellen Wille Jamilla Plus”. I have found that that wig is a short curly style. Did you misprint by any chance and if so can you please post the correct wig? You portray it so well and I would love to try it.

Thanks so much for responding. I’m not sure what i’m doing wrong but I can’t seem to find the Ellen Wille Jamila Plus wig that looks like the one you have on. I believe you of course, and will keep searching. You just look gorgeous in every single wig you wear.

Wow excellent info. I don’t know what your Julianne is made of but mine, in a black/red color, you could never get a comb through. Seriously, not at all. Same with my Rosie. Maybe different colors are made from different fibers? I got rid of them both because the fibers were so dry and thick and heavy. Nothing like yours. Strange.

Hi Taz,I wore my Editor's pick for the first time today. It's so beautiful. I have it in Shaded Iced Pumpkin Spice. As you know the new editor's pick care instructions says DO NOT COMB OR BRUSH. Any suggestions as mine seems quite tangled after wearing it today.

Hi Taz - I'm newish to wigs and need to wash the few I have gotten over the last few months. I was wondering why you use the fabric softener vs the JR "shampoo" and when you switch it up? Does the shampoo do something the softener does not?

Hi Susan! I am going to revamp this video as soon as I can. I no longer use fabric softener.. I choose instead to "prespray" my wigs with a silicon formula (I use Simply Stylin' Light Silk Spray), then wash in synthetic wig safe shampoo as normal. I never skip the conditioning step. For the record, I never had any PROBLEM using the fabric softener.. I've just personally switched up my routine a bit since discovering the Simply Stylin Silicon product benefits. Hope this helps! Hi Taz! Loved this video. I am a visual learner, and cannot figure out how you hung your wig upside down to dry. I feel like if I turn mine inside out and hung it upside down it would flatten the top of my wig What do you use to hang it upside down?
