You gave a very understandable view of what fuel trims indicate and how they should react. Couple more of these and it’s possible I’ll “get it”. Thanks so much.

I usually just use some carburetor cleaner and I spray it around the intake strategically to see if the engine RPMs go up. If it does you know that you have a vacuum leak and it's easy to find without all the stuff that he had

I'm looking at quite a few codes on mine and these are some of them so I'll make sure to look at the hose. However my exhaust manifold has two broken of bolts would cold care seeping from there cause this as well?
@danieldileo5706
@danieldileo5706 9 ай бұрын
Fuel trim uses your O2 sensors to read the content of the mixture, if there is an exhaust leak, especially a large one, it can throw off the readings that the O2 sensors get.

Great simple video that covers a lot of variables. I like that intake bladder setup. It looks a lot nicer than the kit of different sized cups and clamps that we generally used. Do you use it for boost leaks as well?
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 4 жыл бұрын
Rustbelt Mechanic you can use it for boost leaks I believe Redline make a specific smoke machine and bladder set up for high pressure systems.

I'm dying, can't find the cause to mine. Changed to new injectors and new intake manifold gasket. All my vac hoses are good. Torqued my intake gasket to spec, so maybe I'll throw in my old injectors to see if that was it. ??? Same lean codes...

Turned out it was the new injectors. Some just didn't work properly. Got a good tested set of injectors and all went away.

I have both of these codes on my 5.3L '06 Silverado 1500 LT. Also had one for the evap solenoid (P0449 if memory serves), but I replaced that and the code didn't come back. For the lean codes, one shop suggested that it was probably the intake manifold gaskets. I'm not a mechanic but it seemed like a good possibility, really thought that would do it. So my brother and I replaced those this past weekend. Seems to run just a tiny bit better, but the codes keep coming back. The truck has "drivability" issues - takes 2-3 tries to start when cold, gets poor mileage, loses power going up hills, etc. Luckily I live and work with my brother so I've been able to avoid driving it for the most part, but it can't stay sidelined forever. Need to get this figured out. As long as you're just cruising and don't need to go over 3500 RPM or so, it basically runs fine, but gets bad mileage. I bought a cheap OBDII scanner and started learning a little bit about how to read fuel trims. Most KZfaq videos with these codes end up being vacuum leaks (seems like all of them are), but I'm starting to think it's my fuel pump or something in the fuel delivery system. Of course, my truck is one of the first few models that had the fuel pump/filter _inside the tank,_ so that's a whole new can of worms. Thanks for the video, would greatly appreciate if you have any input on mine.

@TheDrewker
@TheDrewker 2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsterling2276 Yep... Ended up being clogged catalytic converters. Weird because it wasn't throwing any cat codes until I tried everything else. Also replaced O2 sensors. Runs good now, but wasn't cheap.

@@TheDrewker ah yeah makes sense, I have the 4.8 and I believe it has dirty fuel injectors and the fuel pump is going bad, it has been sitting a couple of years. Thanks for responding!
