How to Disable Xbox Game DVR on Windows 10 (Gaming Input Lag Issues)

Xbox Game DVR is a feature built into the Xbox App on Windows 10 that allows you to capture the previous 30 seconds of gameplay and share it just like the Xbox One and PS4 share button. Ideally, this sounds really useful but if you are running a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation Intel processor it really bogs down your CPU and causes alot of input lag in games. This tutorial shows you how to disable the feature and free up alot of resources
Text Tutorial:
1) Open Start Menu
2) Open Xbox App. You can also find it at the bottom of all apps
3) Open Settings in Xbox App
4) Click Game DVR
5) Click the Slider to Disable Game DVR. It should be set to on as default; i already disabled it before the video was made which is why its on off for my machine
Windows 10 releases July 29, 2015 and comes as a free upgrade for Windows 7, 8/8.1 users. Windows Insiders will get to upgrade first while reserved users get the OS as a staggered release.

Thanks! Everything I read said "go into DVR settings" or something, and I kept going into the actual DVR tab and wondering why there was no option to disable. This video made it clear.

Oh my god you are a lifesaver! I stumbled across this video in search of a reason for why my WOW account would keep giving me error 132 when I was trying to log on after I updated to windows 10. Somebody suggested to turn off the xbox game dvr, but did not explain how. This fixed the issue right up. Thx so much!!!

You are a GOD.!! this happened to me after i updated to the Windows 10 Anniversary edition.. i used to get around 120fps on my CS-GO at moderate settings.. after the windows update, fps capped at 30.. after trying to change the resolution, the fps got capped at 60.. finally stumbled upon this video.. now my game is back to normal after i disabled game dvr..

As of 12/29/15, i am no longer running Windows 10 on any of my machines because it is still unstable and some of my programs simply refuse to work on it. I will update back to Win10 once all the flaws have been ironed out which will probably take 1-2 years. I reverted back to Win7 for those that are wondering

My Steam copy of Chicken Invaders just craps out on me for no reason. I tried disabling Real Time Scanning, no luck. Edit: It was Xbox App that hates steam, maybe I have a low-end.

Well older builds arent optimized/made for windows 10 dx12 etc.. When i changed my fx 8120 to i7 6700k and upgraded some components my crashes stoped, it was caused by microsoft not carrying about older hardware

Sure, this works, but whenever I open the Xbox Game "app", it asks me to login with a Microsoft Account, which I would never use in my life. How do you disable it without having to create an account?

Daath Gnosis Because it's a complete invasion of privacy. MS can look into everything on your computer if you use one. Also, I have no reason to use it, either. I don't have an Xbox, I don't use Outlook or OneDrive, and I most certainly don't download "apps" from the Windows Store.

Thanks for the video, it works great. I've just disabled xbox dvr but in fact i did not see any performance improvements on my pc but it's fast anyway (i5 4690k, gtx 1080, 16gb of 2400mhz ddr3 ram, samsung 850 pro256gb asus xonar dg, asus pg279q etc.). Anyway, thanks again for pointing me where to turn this damn feature off, i sometimes use nvidia's "shadowplay" when i want to record some gameplay so i don't need this microsot software at all, it's just slowing pc down. Too bad it turned on by itself.

Thanks man, after the windows anniversary update game frames dropped to 60 and my laptop sound started cracking this on i7 laptop. Everything got fixed after i disabled that.

Hi, if I haven't ever logged in or created account for xbox (when I open it it shows me to create a account or loggin) is DVR still on and I have to make an account and disable DVR or do I just leave it like it is?

For some reason the newest Windows update made everyone's FPS lock at 30FPS. Disabling this does work, so you might expect a lot of viewers in this short timespan.

Well, before my CSgo opens, I always got a green window that said "Press windows + g to capture screenshot'', so I assume this is the problem. If this doesn't work, I can't do anything.

You can also find this in the settings. Start -> Settings -> Gaming Then you will see Game DVR option which does not require signing in. Furthermore, make sure you turn off the game mode as well.

So if the dvr is on in xbox app but your not recording atm its always recording the last 30 sec just incase you hit record? I see how thats a nice feature but it seems like a lot of waste in ram. My sons new machine is on win 10 and he gets lag in online gameplay.

Most Newest Geforce GPU's now have a dedicated chip that allow you to record the las moments of whatever you did. It's called Geforce Shadowplay. That won't affect your sons FPS. So disabling this DVR thing should be no problem.

i have a brand new gaming computer with 8 gb of ram and my games were working exelent on ultra high quality eve gta5 and fallout 4 ,but after one update of windows 10 (not to windows 10 but later as an adition) my games were extremly lagging and i am talking 11 fps.I alredy tried reinstaling the older version of windows 10, but that didnt work.Any ides what i could do?
