Today, we take apart a ZT 0450CF. It's pretty straightforward, and although I work a bit to get the centering perfect, it's mostly smooth sailing, with a terrible joke.

Thanks, man.. exactly what i expected. It's one of my favorite knives I've ever had. Taken care of for years, but finally time for a freshen up. Just wanted a quick idea of how she looked opened up. Great video, keep up the great work!

Nick- Some missionaries were down in the Amazon rainforest helping some of the local tribes and doing whatever it is that missionaries do, when all of a sudden a giant bird begins flying over head. Immediately all of the locals start running for cover while pointing up at the giant bird yelling, “Foo! Foo!” The missionaries don’t understand what is happening and one of them gets shat on by the bird. So he goes down to the river and begins washing himself off, when all of a sudden he keels over and dies. The other missionaries are shocked and saddened by the sudden death of their friend, so they decide to hold a funeral for him the next day. So the next day comes and while the missionaries are having their funeral for their friend, they notice all of the locals start running for cover and pointing up at the sky while yelling “Foo! Foo! Foo!” and sure enough the same giant bird is flying in circles overhead. This time the missionaries follow the locals and run for cover as fast as they can, but unfortunately another missionary is pooped on by this mysterious giant Foo bird.. This time, however, this missionaries aren’t near the river or any other water source, so the missionary is forced to go for the rest of the day with Foo bird poo all over her. However, after the funeral all of the missionaries return to camp where she is able to shower and get cleaned up. As soon as she steps in the shower and cleans off, however, she immediately collapses and dies right there. Shocked and saddened by the sudden and unexpected death of another fellow missionary, they decide to hold a funeral for her the next day. So the next day comes and while out at the funeral, the Foo bird emerges overhead and everyone scrambles for cover, but unfortunately another missionary gets hit by the Foo bird poop. This time, however, he decides not to wash it off, and they all go home and live happily ever after. So.... What’s the moral of the story?? When the Foo shits, wear it!!! 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

Yaay! My current fav carry knife! In my pocket not with a deep carry clip. The point on this guy points just right! Great for cutting painters tape in corners, cutting plastic sheet for masking, etc. the factory edge was not satisfactory but the lightweightness of this and the quickness of its deployment make it a pretty key tool. One thing tho- you will find yourself sharpening it ooooofteeen. Not a big deal if you have a diamond stone sitting around, doesnt take that many passes to get the edge back on but i do wish there was a bit more edge retention. Currently rocking an 18-19 degree edge with microbevel at about 23 or so

It's pretty easy to take down I've swapped the standoffs between the 450 and 450CF, and the red on black works pretty well. Also, yes, there's a bit of a collar there in the standoffs

I have bought and sold 3 ZT 0450s over the past year. I really wanted to love this model, but each one that I've had seemed to have blade grind issues. In particular, all 3 had grinds near the tip that favored the lock side of the handle. No matter what centering trick I utilized, I still couldn't correct the blade centering.

Hey Nick, Great video and explanation! Got one question though. Is the detent ball ramp (the silver surface at 3.33) supposed to be uneven? Also did you find that pressing the liner lock more secured the blade better? Mine only supports 1/3 of the blade.

Hey Nick, I've been seeing quite a few people talking about ceramic bearing replacement for the 0450. Would you happen to know where to find a supplier that has the correct bearings for said replacement?

I find that the lock bar pushes the blade off center when the main pivot is too loose, there is a narrow window that allows the knife to flip open reliably and keep the blade centered, should main pivot loctite and lubrication be my go to solution?

Nick love the vids man but what tool brand of tool are you using? Also would like to see you take down a leatherman.
@messmer7776 жыл бұрын
Jeez I just got one of these and it was a nightmare to get the dang pivot apart. I damn near stripped out the screws and had to resort to a bic lighter to heat it up to get the thread lock free, a soldering iron didn't even work.

Instead of rubbing alcohol which has water, I would suggest denatured alcohol which evaporated quicker and is less prone to leaving residual moisture. I appreciate the breakdown videos! Thank you.
@loganbabcock61795 жыл бұрын
The problem with that is it’s not very good to get on your skin and can do more harm than good. If you use something like frog lube after you cleaned it with the alcohol, you’re not gonna have any issues with water seeping into the metal and causing rust.
@ChuckBeefOG6 жыл бұрын
Just went to take mine apart for the first time today and the pivot will NOT come apart. I wonder if i should warranty it, full power one two drivers and it wont budge.
@Mikeleifheit7 жыл бұрын
I can't get my action quite worked out. The dlc finish is very poor around the pivot area. Could it help to use 600 grit sand paper to take it down to bare metal?

Hey Nick, would there be a way to remove the backspacers? I was thinking about buying it and switching them out for the regular red ones on the regular 450
@HaesslichG7 жыл бұрын
Ethan Coats I've done it with my 450CF and regular 450. Just pay more attention when you tighten the scale screws than Nick did here and you'll be fine I suspect the scales aren't perfectly parallel, which means the handle and skewed just enough to screw with the centering

hey Nick your videos are great. Subscribed the first time I saw one. One question I disassembled my 0450 and have a little side to side bladeplay because I wanted it to drop shut. its not that much but I was wondering is there any problem running it a bit loose? Thanks also why does the 0450 have metal kvt bearing and all other ZT's have blue plastic?
@NickShabazz7 жыл бұрын
+blindacid1 It's probably ok, but it drives me nuts! And probably the blue plastic isn't workable on this tiny scale.

Hey Nick, quick question. Do you use anything on the blade for cleanup, maintenance, and to prevent rust? If so what do you use and how often do you recommend using it? I appreciate the help, thank you!

@sinjon4 жыл бұрын
Nick, not sure if you’ll see this or not since it’s an old video. Just wonder if you’ve noticed any difference in blade centering between knives where the bearing “well” is cut out from the blade on one side and the scale on the other side vs the cutout being on the scales on both sides

What bit drive are you using?
@James_Edward594 ай бұрын
This blade reminds me a lot of the Benchmade 940-1 because of the size and shape and Carbon Fiber and colored spacers but I think the Benchmade is a bit better in design and both sides are CF as well as having Benchmade’s patented axis lock.
@theartoframshackle6 жыл бұрын
I think the blade just looks off center because of the frame lock. It was boggling my mind as well. Also, great joke!

@rodrigoteresa79447 жыл бұрын
Gilbert McGillicutty ZT's S35VN is crazy soft... Watch CedricAdaOutdoors' video about it... Happened in two instances to him. I prefer 189 cos I don't really care about corrosion that much. Plus the 189 0450 has nicer aesthetics in my opinion...
