I spent two years in Korea as an M60 shooter. I've done a lot of disassembly in my life. I remember it took three minutes to disassemble and assemble all the assemblies. I'm glad to see the M60 again with this video.

Thanks, that brought back a lot of memories. I was in US Army stationed in West Germany in late 70s to 80s and the rifle range we had locally was not rated for firing our M-60 machine guns. Fortunately we had a Battery Commander, Captain Nieman, who was friendly with officers in German Bundeswehr unit so we were able to take our entire Battery to German army training area called Muenster Lagen Sud where we could fire our M-60s and also practice EOD procedures and blow things up with C-4. I was NCOIC of the range during the live fire and it was quite a surprise when half the M-60s in our unit would not fire. It seems there is a part that can be put in backwards if you are not careful during reassembly of the weapon. I forget what part that was but maybe you know.

Thanks for sharing Bill! The Gas piston can be installed backwards as well as the sear... which would lead to non functioning gun

thanks.....I think it was the sear mostly in our case.

Effective weapon none the less had one in Baghdad, however the 240B for us Army folk was a competitive upgrade and a fucking durable machine gun.

Yes we used 240Gs. Was never a fan because they were designed to be a defensive weapon... Ejects out the bottom...weighs a ton... The 240Ls addressed a lot of those issues.

Great job. Now, take those pieces and put them in a box that already contains a disassembled M16, M249, and a M240B, blind fold yourself and then put them all back together.

For some reason, I had no memory of the barrel latch mechanism and couldn't remember how to change out the barrel. Of course, it's been more than 35 years since I had to fire one.

Enjoyed your video, I was F.T. leader, radioman, and carried extra 60 ammo for my gunner on every patrol, & occasionally got to fire the pig. The M-240 was to take it's place but we all know that that was bullshit. The 60 packs the best punch, and I would love to shoot the pig again. Semper Fi

Are there any special tools required to assemble the bolt? I got a spare bare bolt, and still need to get all the small parts.
@BeltFedsComLLC
@BeltFedsComLLC 9 жыл бұрын
SLT223 No special tools... the back comes apart very easily... The front extractor and ejector are removed by depressing detents and removing a roll pin. The springs are really tight and I use a pick type tool to depress it and remove. You should get a proper size punch for removing and putting back in roll pins. Just to avoid damaging the roll pin..... I'll address this in a video.... Taking apart the front of the bolt can be a little tricky

you seem to know a lot about the M60.. think youd have the skills to backwards engineer at least some basic components, like the bolt and oprod for example?
@BeltFedsComLLC
@BeltFedsComLLC 9 жыл бұрын
I would certainly not have the "skills" to engineer any of these components..... there are no gun smiths in the country engineering M60 bolts or op rods... Desert Ordinance is the current manufacturer of these weapons and they charge 600 dollars for a bolt. The cost is so high due to how much goes into making these components.
@megadeth22885
@megadeth22885 9 жыл бұрын
backwards engineering is where you just draw out the individual pieces and measure a physical part you have in your possession to get the dimensions.. so for example, to backwards engineer a bolt you would take measurements like the overall length of the bolt, diameter of the bolt body bolt head, width, length, depth of the locking lugs, etc

phillyphilhouse79 you mean FG42, the MG42 is a roller locked recoil operated rifle.. ZERO similarities with the MG42.. the bolt carrier group between the M60 and FG42 are nearly identical
