Wrong ! starlings love peanuts. They will hog the your peanut feeder in no time flat chasing all the song birds away. They say starlings are big and not as agile- Don't tell that to the flock in my yard. They hang upside down,cling on and hover to hog all the food. They work in teams to chase all the native birds away and dominate the territory. They are flat out mean and nasty.

A starling flock decided to start roosting in a few trees in the back yard. Leaves an awful stinky mess of feathers and droppings. Watched at dusk and when they started to assemble used the gas powered pressure washer to make racket and spray up into trees. Only took a couple of evenings and they decided to find another roost. Humane and effective.

Or you could spray up in the trees with an Uzi, and take out about 20 of them. Screw being humane. They are invasive species and murder numerous native birds? Get it? They’re murderers and deserve to be executed! Just kidding on the Uzi thing, but pellet rifles will work.

Starlings are the most ravenous feeders on my peanuts. They can empty my 3 feeders in 2 days. I have a "globe" feeder for mealworms for "Robins Only" but the starlings are VERY acrobatic in their ability to fly sideways and once inside they flap their wings rapidly to empty all the food onto the ground. This video above is just all nonsense!!

@@apollonia6656 recently I have been getting up early most days before dawn and have noticed that my local "gang" of starlings doesn't arrive until about 10.00 am, (which is mid-morning here in Ireland). By this time the tree-sparrows, blue and coal tits, robins and other Christian (lol) birds have had several hours to feed in peace. I have started removing 2/3rds of the peanut feeders when the starlings arrive and they tend to move on more quickly. They seem to follow a regular route and arrive back as a group again around one or two in the afternoon. That is the only consolation I can offer!

@@oh_k8 They are horrible. The worst thing to happen to native cavity nesters are the introduction of the starling and house sparrow. Not to mention feed and crop damage.
@oh_k8
@oh_k8 Жыл бұрын
New evidence suggests this is false. The perception that starlings harm native bird populations was based on a flawed study from the 1980's. They more recently tried to study the harm of starlings on cavity nesters again and found no decline in the numbers of cavity nesters due to starlings or a remarkable cost for damaged agriculture. In fact, starlings dont even eat grain during the growing season, their preferred food are insects. That whole idea that starlings caused billion dollar losses in crops was all false.
@mike5556
@mike5556 Жыл бұрын

@oh_k8
@oh_k8 Жыл бұрын
Yes. Backyard birders are anecdotal observers. Koenig's study was an actual study which found no evidence that starlings impacted native cavity nesters whatsoever. Many european studies have also made the same determination in european studies. Furthermore ejection from manmade nest boxes could often be placed on human error. In addition, the increase of bird eating accipiters have done more harm to purple martens and other endangered birds, which have often been erroneously blamed on starlings. In short, humans are prejudice and often show hatred against people, animals etc. based on unfair perceptions and rumours. None of that has ever been proven true and yet people like you, continue to shoot them with pellets guns, despite the contrary evidence.

Starlings are annoyingly noisy, very aggressive (even to each other), and come to our feeders in large flocks (along with a flock of mourning doves, 3 blue jays & 2 woodpeckers) to devour all the food before our smaller, non-offensive bluebirds, cardinals, chickadees, tufted titmouse, sparrows, finches, etc. ever have a chance to grab a bite (at great risk of attack.) They’re a major nuisance as far as birds go and we desperately want to be rid of them so that our “darlings” will be able to return and eat in a safe, unstressed environment again. We tried not feeding at all for 1 full week (but didn’t want to wait longer for fear that our fledgling bluebirds might suffer even more.) That did not work, nor did changing feeders. Starlings are more agile and acrobatic than some may know. They’ll do ANYTHING to get to the food. I’ve also tried scaring them off repeatedly, but they always come back. Cutting branches is not an option, as the other birds need that protection from the hawks, owls, etc. that nest nearby. So…most of these video recommendation have not worked for us. Damn starlings are mean as heck and a plague to all the other birds who, prior to the starlings arrival, shared food and dined together in peace.🙄 We’re thinking of trying only safflower seeds but not sure that the smaller songbirds will like it or be able to eat it. Guess we’ll see.🤞

A guy a know who has a solution to almost every pest problem has a big starling trap that the smaller birds can get out but starlings are trapped. Every now and again a non offense bird will be trapped in their with them and he will manually remove it and let it fly away then take the starling trap and submerge it in a tote of water for 30 seconds and then empty them out. He throws a handful of the carcasses around the woods and the natural wildlife eats it quickly. Sometimes he just dumps all the carcasses in the trash but all his bird feeders hardly ever have a starling. He puts the trap next to the bird feeder. The small birds use the trap but can easily escape , then the starlings see them and go in after them to get the food and get stuck. 😂

Lots of laughs, none of those tips help, they clean out all my feeders within 15 minutes does not matter what kind. They're evil greedy bullies! What's really weird is so many people in my neighborhood feed birds why don't they go clean out their bird feeders?!

I adore starlings. They are a native species where I live and their numbers have drastically declined in recent years. Had a pair nesting in our garage a couple years ago, and we got to see the newly fledged chicks on the bird feeder. If you people in the states don’t like them, stop whining and send them over here 😂

I would happily send every one over! We had such a variety of birds and were really enjoying watching the community and how they all interact. Starlings came in, killed all the babies and now there is only starlings and mourning doves. Blue Jay's used to be the mean bird but the starlings even chase those away. I had to take all my feeders down and they still won't go away. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of them lol
