In this video I build custom DIY door speaker pods for my Hummer H2. Each pod has 2 BS18 6.5" mid range speakers and an 8" mid bass. This is a simple to follow DIY fabrication build that will give you good results if you take your time and don’t take any shortcuts. Please ask if you have any questions.

Nice build..! As an old school installer and owner of my own shop (3yrs) I will say this... Labor is expensive & when doing the work as a DIY home project the major concern is time available to do the job as quickly & clean as possible with as little sanding as possible cause sanding sucks lol... When I did custom pods I used sweatshirt material or a thick cotton Tee-shirt type material for the single reason of I hate sanding bondo because sweatshirt material or cotton is smooth... Using fleece creates more labor with a higher cost in materials and time & all the sanding needed prior to bondo... The easy way is use the materials I mentioned & if needed do two layer for strength but since reinforcement is done by glassing the back side usually one layer is enough & by using a smooth fabric it reduces the use of bondo etc... often times a simple scuff of 80grit is all that's needed... Super nice build as a father son project..! I'm just tossing out the way I did it... Hope it helps if you do this again someday.

Good job for your first ones. I would recommend not leaving the flaps inside of the speaker mounting locations. Even though you cannot see them from the front, those should be trimmed flush with the hole. The long flap will get inside the speaker from the backside and over time will create noise. I also recommend the Weldwood Landau contact cement mentioned below. I've used the cement you have here and had it turn gooey and let go in the summer heat (Oklahoma), but the Weldwood Landau has never failed me.

@@blazeaglory 3M super 77 and super 90 have both turned to goo on me inside of a month in the heat. 25 years ago super 77 held great, but I tried it again a couple of years back only to have it let go. Not sure if the formula has changed or not, but I'm guessing it has over the years.

The best contact cement for car applications in my experience is Weldwood Landau Top & Trim High Heat Resistant Contact Cement. Depending on the temperature, let dry for 15 and most importantly work small areas. You really only have a 3-5 minute window to get the fabric down. It’s well worth the trouble to just do small sections. It will make all the difference. (You did a pretty good job for your first door pod. Looks great 👍)

Nice can you do it with any shape or design from any door panel I wanna fit 3 speakers plus tweeter into nissan altima 2018 front and rear what do you recommend

Yes! But if the mounting panel is not flat like mines you will likely have to do a fiberglass shell for the base. Pretty easy to do

Came out looking very nice indeed! I'm a bit curious as to why you chose to keep the bottom part of the door panels - can you really use that space for storage anyway? Would it have been difficult from a practical standpoint to extend the pods downward?

You can find them anywhere. Just search 6.5” speaker rings, or 8” speaker rings. Here is a link for amazon for example. Thanks for the support man www.amazon.com/RING-6-5BZ-Speaker-Recess-MOUNTING-SPACER/dp/B00K5Q9D7U

They are very similar actually. Just decided to try something different. So far I like them a lot. I will be doing a door distance test soon. Stay tuned :)
