Hi Tom, @2:22 or the last house you did, I noticed it has the crescent SRHE entrance, I just put them on all my Trio castle, two TG-12 rope grandpa 12 units, the castle I have no (hinges) on to hold the doors in place, it's a 1966, rebuilt in 1994 like new, subfloors hold the doors in with bungee cord around, I lost my colony in 2006 of 12 years but this May a ASY male came in and build a successful nest in a plastic gourd. Around June I replaced the old round holes and put the crescent entrance on but the late SY purple martins that came in would peak in but never go in? Also I have heard after getting these crescent entrance, the metal is scraping the martins backs, not good for the bird feathers? I will remodify my two TG-12 units this fall to 6. Would love to remodify that castle but no hinges to hold the doors in, subfloors keep the doors from going all the way in. What's your thoughts. That Chirpy nest is very nice.

James. As for the crescent openings , assuming they are the correct size the martins will easily adapt to them. However after using crescents since they were first developed, I now like the Conley 2 openings because they allow more room yet do a great job keeping starlings out. There are several other SREH as well including the excluder which I’ve used too. Next year I’m going to try the modified excluder. I definitely would use some type of Starling resistant entry. There are plates you may be able to use in the castle that you can attach to the existing door. M as y need to enlarge the existing hole first.

@@tombrake8739 Tom, I ordered all the 48 SREH crescent entrance holes for the Trio houses from PMCA, im sure they will use them next year, (Hinge at the floor) I asked the lady if they sold the little hinge that holds the door in place, she couldn't find anything, seems it is riveted in from the factory. It's only on the castle, doors fit good but without a hinge to lock the door in place, I have to take a bungee cord that goes all the way around the castle, pushing the doors up to the subfloors so the door doesn't go all the way in. Sound's confusing, I know. I want to modify the castle, and I'm going to modify the two TG-12s this fall, I have a very nice place here in middle Tennessee with alot of open flyways, im so happy to get my purple martins back after losing them for 15 years, I just want to make it better for them in the coming years, I will keep the other doors in mind you told me about, I jumped into getting the SREH crescent before ordering, not thinking. God has blessed me. Thanks for your information.

@@jameslomenzo1139 maybe you could send a picture of your castle house. It might not be the Trio type I Usually think of as the castle. Tom@chirpynests.com
