On my 96 3500 the rear tires and axle are a half inch (maybe a inch, can't remember) wider than the front. I just used blocks on the front tires to make up the difference.

I have the same truck however there is no knuckle to adjust. Only adjustment is to turn tie rod in or out a complete turn. What a pain to take lose and raising and lowering the front end. I finally got it close enough to drive. Thanks for the vid.

Are your front and rear track the same? Most are different.
@stephenloughman4135

That is an important point! If your total wheel base width is the same front and rear this string method works fine. If not this won't work correvctly.

+MexhomieXlll ...same here - 03 Dodge Durango SXT with 200k+ miles.. bought used for $800, got new tires, but alignment costs $1000+ due to worn parts needing replacement... will do home alignment 'til parts come in, then do work myself - save about $800!

Don't you have to lift up the truck move the tire

Your tires are supposed to be toed in about 1/2". If you make them straight you'll have wandering issues. Toe in prevents wandering.

The amount a vehicle needs varies. Most use a very small amount of Toe-in.. 1/16th to 1/8. 1/2 inch would be a lot and would usualy show viable tires wear on the outside edge.

I had 3 alignments and still got excessive tire wear. Makes me think if there is something else wrong.

Your front axle is wider than your rear axle... This wont work. Sorry to break the news...
@wescrownover
@wescrownover 4 жыл бұрын
It would work fine as long as you measured the width of both front and rear then add a spacer on each side to make up the difference. Say your rear is an inch narrower than your front. Make some kind of 1/2 inch spacer and attach to the rear tires. Maybe cardboard and glue or clamps and wood whatever you can make work. Remember you want your front tires towed in just a lil bit like an 1/8 of an inch otherwise any wear in front end parts will allow the tires to wonder. With the small amount of toe in it keeps pressure against itself .
@BlackCatFever2011
@BlackCatFever2011 4 жыл бұрын
@@wescrownover It works if you use jack stands to string onto and space off the tires the same for the backs, then the same for fronts. Even then though your strings must be absolutely parallel, which is hard to do. There are easier ways to measure toe.. This way is asinine.

@@BlackCatFever2011 I am very familiar with stringing a car to set to as we did it many time on our stock car . Used the jack stand method . This way is actually EASIER --
