Great, looks easy and it’s good to keep on the oil due to the timing chains, just brought a sport tourer and going to do this myself

I have got a 2014 model and I am not aware that there is a dipstick, where is it? Always done my own oil changes before but not on this car.

In my 2016 model it is on the right hand side of the cover at the back towards the windscreen

sorry to ask but wouldn't you be better to jack it up in the middle ? If you use the floor behind the jack points aren't you going to damage the floor ?

I think you would but my jack is too short/not a low profile jack. I’m pretty sure I googled it at the time and found that it’s still the chassis frame so is fine to jack up but probably best you do your own research incase I’m wrong!

I've had my 3 series for 2 years and I had no idea there was an actual dipstick, I thought it was electronic only 😅

I would change the oil for 5w-40 if the engine has done anything over 40,000 miles. I also do a change every 12 months and not 24 as BMW recommend.

Answer question sorry, I've seen on other videos of different oil changes that people prime the oil filter by pouring fresh oil into the filter. Is that something that needs doing or is this only on certain cars? Apparently they said it helps as it doesn't do a dry start. Sorry complete newbie and I've watched this video like 5 times already lol 😆 got another 1500 miles till it hits the 5k mark for me to do my first ever oil change. So probably 2 more weeks.

I’ve seen a few people do this, it deffo won’t hurt to throw a bit of oil in the filter before putting it back. Tbh I don’t think it’s essential on these cars, not sure about other brands
